Knutson named to NABC Academic Honors Court

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh rising senior Gabe Knutson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court on Tuesday following a stellar season on the court and in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, student-athletes must meet a high standard of academic criteria. Qualifiers are juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year.
In total, hundreds of student-athletes were recognized across Divisions I, II, III and NAIA Institutions. For the complete release from the NABC, including the complete list of honorees, please click here.
Knutson has been recognized with numerous academic honors, including Academic All-Patriot League laurels each of the last two seasons. The Accounting major owns a strong 3.23 GPA.
On the court, the Iowa native averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, both second on the team. He enters his senior season with 1,110 career points, joining classmate C.J. McCollum as active Mountain Hawks to eclipse 1,000.
Knutson, along with four teammates and Lehigh head coach Brett Reed, are heading to the 20th ESPY Awards, set for Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. A special two-hour "ESPYS countdown" show is set for 7 p.m. leading into the live event. The Mountain Hawks are one of four nominees for the ESPY “Best Upset” for their NCAA Tournament win over Duke. The entire starting lineup from that game will be in attendance: Knutson, McCollum, Jordan Hamilton, John Adams and Mackey McKnight.
