BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men’s basketball senior Gabe Knutson has earned Academic All-Patriot League honors for a third straight season, as announced by the Patriot League on Monday. Knutson has excelled on the court and in the classroom since stepping foot on campus, owning a 3.25 cumulative GPA in Accounting while nearing the top 10 in school history for career points.
Knutson joins Bucknell’s Bryson Johnson and Mike Muscala, Lafayette’s Joey Ptasinski and American’s John Schoof on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Muscala was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, Knutson owns a number of academic honors. He’s a consistent member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll while he garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award on several occasions and was named to the NABC Academic Honors Court as well.
On the court, Knutson stands seconds on the team in scoring average (13.4) and third in rebounding (3.4). He owns 1,472 career points, which is approaching the top 10 in Lehigh history and top 25 in Patriot League history.
The Academic All-Patriot League Team honors student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom, and the size equals the sport’s first-team All-Patriot League composition. Sports information directors, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes, select the academic award winners.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Lehigh hosts Colgate on Wednesday in the Patriot League Quarterfinals, a rematch of last season’s quarterfinal matchup.
