BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s basketball freshman Anthony D’Orazio has been named the season’s first Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. D’Orazio enjoyed a memorable collegiate debut in the Mountain Hawks’ 70-56 loss at Penn State on Friday, scoring 17 points while connecting on 6-of-9 shots from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Incredibly, D’Orazio extends Lehigh’s Rookie of the Week streak to 10 straight weeks dating back to last season after C.J. McCollum won seven and Gabe Knutson garnered two to finish the 2009-10 campaign.
A native of Camden, N.J., D’Orazio entered Friday’s opener when McCollum picked up his second foul in the early going. He went on to score 14 points in a four-minute stretch midway through the first half to help the Mountain Hawks open up a 10-point lead. All 14 points came within the first six minutes of his collegiate career. He also finished with four rebounds despite seeing just 18 minutes of action. D’Orazio teamed with fellow freshman Mackey McKnight for 30 of Lehigh's 56 points.
Lehigh looks ahead to a trip to Monmouth on Friday before hosting defending Ivy League Champion and Sweet 16 participant Cornell on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets for all home games are now on sale and may be purchased on Lehighsports.com or by calling the ticket office at (610) 7LU-GAME.
