Lehigh drops 78-57 final to Lafayette
The Lehigh men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome an early deficit, as Lafayette’s hot-shooting sparked the Leopards (10-12, 3-2 Patriot League) to a 78-57 win over the Mountain Hawks (14-5, 4-1) in front of a season-high 3,279 fans at Stabler Arena Sunday. Senior Gabe Knutson and juniors Mackey McKnight and B.J. Bailey led the way with 12 points apiece as Lehigh’s 12-game Patriot League winning streak (dating back to last season) was snapped.

Rivalry is renewed as Mountain Hawks host Lafayette Sunday
Coming off a huge win at Bucknell Wednesday night, the Lehigh men’s basketball team returns home Sunday to host archrival Lafayette. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. In sole possession of first place, the Mountain Hawks are riding five straight wins and wins in 13 of their last 15 games. Sunday is also a special Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers game to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Mountain Hawks shock Bucknell, 65-62
In its fifth game without star C.J. McCollum, the Lehigh men’s basketball went to Bucknell and won anyway, topping the Bison 65-62 in front of a raucous crowd on Wednesday evening in Sojka Pavilion. Junior B.J. Bailey shattered his career high with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 4-of-4 from three-point range while sophomore Mackey McKnight had 15. Lehigh’s three-point shooting was the story, finishing 56 percent from long distance against one of the nation’s best defending the three.

Lehigh to host Lafayette Sunday in Coaches vs. Cancer Game
Lehigh men’s basketball’s game against Lafayette on Sunday, Jan. 27 is part of Coaches vs. Cancer® Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend. This marks the third straight year the Mountain Hawks will take part in the joint effort of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches to help make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Lehigh travels to Bucknell Wednesday for first-place showdown
Riding four straight victories and wins in 12 of its last 14, the Lehigh men’s basketball team heads to Bucknell on Wednesday for a first-place showdown against the Bison. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Lehigh and Bucknell have won the last three Patriot League Championships and are both off to 3-0 league starts. It will mark the first meeting between the two sides since last season’s Patriot League Championship Game, an 82-77 Lehigh victory.

Lehigh jumps out early in 60-45 win over Colgate
The Lehigh men’s basketball team jumped out to a 9-0 lead and wouldn’t look back, extending the lead to 17 before holding off Colgate, 60-45 on Saturday evening in Stabler Arena. Three Mountain Hawks (13-4, 3-0 Patriot League) finished with double-digit points, led by 14 points and seven rebounds from junior Mackey McKnight. Senior Holden Greiner posted his fourth-career double-double in the win, scoring 12 points and adding 12 rebounds.

Lehigh returns home to host Colgate Saturday night
Following a gritty win at American Wednesday night, the Lehigh men’s basketball team returns home to host Colgate Saturday at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are 2-0 in league play for the first time in six seasons. Lehigh has used a balanced team effort as of late to win three in a row after losing senior C.J. McCollum to a foot injury.

Down 23-9 midway through the first half, the Lehigh men’s basketball team responded in a big way, pulling out a hard-fought 63-57 win at American on Wednesday for its first 2-0 Patriot League start in six seasons. Senior Holden Greiner led the offense with 22 points behind a stellar 10-of-13 shooting while junior B.J. Bailey made a big steal with just over 30 seconds remaining and American down by three.

Coming off a stellar all-around effort against Holy Cross, the Lehigh men’s basketball team looks to carry the momentum when it travels to American to face the Eagles. Tipoff on Wednesday is set for 7:30 p.m. Lehigh picked up its second straight win by 30+ points, while forcing Holy Cross to just 29.5 percent shooting (13-of-44). The Mountain Hawks are hoping to improve to 2-0 in the Patriot League for the first time in six seasons (2006-07).

Goldsborough named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Lehigh freshman forward Justin Goldsborough has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Goldsborough enjoyed a breakout week, posting 12 points and 18 rebounds over a pair of 30-point victories. That included a game-high 10 boards against Holy Cross Saturday as the Mountain Hawks dominated the glass (39-26), against a strong rebounding team.

Mountain Hawks roll to 79-47 win over Holy Cross in league opener
The Lehigh men’s basketball team put together one of its most complete games of the season, beating Holy Cross, 79-47, in the Patriot League opener on Saturday. A balanced effort saw junior Mackey McKnight lead the way with 16 points while freshman Justin Goldsborough excelled on the glass with a career-high 10 rebounds. Lehigh snapped a two-game losing streak in Patriot League openers to improve to 11-4 overall. Holy Cross falls to 8-8 and 0-1 in league play.

McCollum among John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum has been named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, as announced late Thursday by The Los Angeles Athletic Club on ESPNU. Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the list is made up of 25 student-athletes who, based on their performances in November, December, and the beginning of January, are the frontrunners for college basketball’s most prestigious honor.

Lehigh hosts Holy Cross Saturday for Patriot League opener
Following a strong nonleague campaign, the Lehigh men’s basketball team begins Patriot League play on Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross at 2 p.m. The game will air live nation-wide on CBS Sports Network with Bob Socci and Chris Spatola on the call. The Mountain Hawks rounded out their nonleague season on Tuesday with an 81-46 win over Muhlenberg as they reached double-digit nonleague victories for a second straight season.

Lehigh basketball teams visit local middle schools
The Mountain Hawks continued with their efforts to reach out to the community this past week by speaking and interacting with students at a pair of local middle schools. The Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball teams recently visited Nitschmann Middle School and Saucon Valley Middle School to speak to the students on subjects such as respect, commitment, teamwork and work ethic, among other topics, to stress what it takes to succeed on and off the court.

Mountain Hawks cruise past Muhlenberg, 81-46
The Lehigh men’s basketball team wrapped up nonleague play with a strong 81-46 win over fellow Lehigh Valley foe Muhlenberg on Tuesday evening in Stabler Arena. Four Mountain Hawks (10-4) finished with double-figure points, led by a season-high 15 from junior Anthony D’Orazio. Sophomore Corey Schaefer added a career-high 11 assists, the most by a Lehigh player in three years.

McCollum undergoes successful surgery
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum underwent successful surgery on his left foot Tuesday morning. The surgery was performed by noted foot and ankle specialist Dr. Mark S. Myerson in Baltimore after being recommended to McCollum by Lehigh’s team physician Dr. Wayne Luchetti.

Lehigh wraps up nonleague play vs. Muhlenberg Tuesday
The Lehigh men’s basketball team rounds out its nonleague schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Lehigh Valley foe Muhlenberg at 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena. One of the program’s most played rivalries, the two sides have played 110 times beginning with the first meeting back in 1901-02. The Mountain Hawks will look to snap a two-game losing streak heading into their Patriot League opener on Saturday vs. Holy Cross (on CBS Sports Network).

Injury update on C.J. McCollum
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum will be out an estimated 8-10 weeks with a fracture of his fifth metatarsal in his left foot, as confirmed through an X-ray on Sunday. McCollum injured the foot with approximately 5:37 remaining in the first half of Saturday’s game at VCU and did not return.

Spirited effort falls short at VCU, 59-55
Down by double figures late in the first half and without star C.J. McCollum, the Lehigh men’s basketball team dropped a tight 59-55 final at VCU on Saturday. McCollum suffered an injury late in the first half, but the rest of the squad rallied to take a one-point halftime lead and stay within a possession for much of the second. Senior Holden Greiner tied a season high with 17 points while classmate Gabe Knutson added 10 as the Mountain Hawks had a chance to tie with less than a minute to go.

Lehigh heads to VCU Saturday for nationally-televised showdown
Following a tough 80-79 loss to Bryant, the Lehigh men’s basketball team will look to bounce back when it heads to VCU on Saturday for a 5 p.m. tipoff on NBC Sports Network. The matchup features two of the final 32 teams in last season’s NCAA Tournament as both the Mountain Hawks and Rams won their Second Round games. VCU is best known for its Final Four run just two seasons ago when it beat USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and Kansas.
