Mountain Hawks drop heartbreaking 80-79 final to Bryant
Bryant jumped out to an early lead and Lehigh couldn’t recover as the Mountain Hawks dropped a heartbreaking 80-79 final on Saturday evening in Stabler Arena. The Bulldogs scored the go-ahead basket with 1.3 seconds remaining to snap the Mountain Hawks’ eight-game winning streak and win themselves for the seventh time in their last nine contests. Senior C.J. McCollum returned from injury to score 34 points on 9-of-18 shooting and 6-of-10 from three-point range.

Lehigh looks to continue momentum vs. Bryant Saturday
The Lehigh men’s basketball team eyes its ninth straight win on Saturday when it welcomes Bryant for a 7 p.m. tipoff in Stabler Arena. That game will follow a pair of women’s basketball Christmas City Classic contests at 2 and 4:30 p.m. with the Lehigh women hosting Binghamton at 4:30. Strong team effort leads Lehigh past North Texas, 90-75
Without the nation’s leading scorer, the Lehigh men’s basketball team came together for one of its most impressive wins of the season, defeating North Texas 90-75 on Thursday evening. Down 21-18 midway through the first half, the Mountain Hawks scored 34 of the final 46 first-half points to pull away. Senior Gabe Knutson paced the offense with 28 points while junior Mackey McKnight scored a career-high 25 and tied a season-high seven assists.

McCollum and McKnight named Bob Cousy Award Candidates
Lehigh men’s basketball senior C.J. McCollum and junior Mackey McKnight have been named candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award, as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame on Thursday. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men’s college basketball. In total, over 80 candidates have been nominated for the award and Lehigh is one of only five schools with multiple candidates.

Mountain Hawks return to action at North Texas Thursday
Following more than 10 days between games, the Lehigh men’s basketball team will return to action on Thursday when it heads to North Texas to face the Mean Green. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local). The Mountain Hawks are riding a seven-game winning streak, off to their best start in 74 years at 8-2. Thursday will feature a premier matchup between two NBA Draft lottery prospects in Lehigh senior C.J. McCollum and North Texas sophomore Tony Mitchell.

Lehigh tops Saint Francis (Pa.) 83-67 for best start in 74 years
Lehigh opened the game on a 13-0 run and held off Saint Francis the rest of the way as the Mountain Hawks won their seventh straight game on Saturday, 83-67. With the win, Lehigh is off to its best start after 10 games (8-2) since 1938-39. Senior C.J. McCollum led the way with 29 points, falling just one shy of his fourth 30-point game of the season.

Lehigh runs past Fordham, 81-63
The Lehigh men’s basketball jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead then held on in the second to beat Fordham, 81-63 on Tuesday evening in Stabler Arena. The win marks the Mountain Hawks’ sixth in a row as they improve to 7-2, equaling their best record after nine games since the 1980-81 season. All five starters posted double-figure points, led by 21 from junior Mackey McKnight.

Coming off a historic effort against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Lehigh men’s basketball team looks for its sixth straight win when it hosts Fordham Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks eclipsed 100 points in Saturday’s 102-62 win over FDU, this in head coach Brett Reed’s 100th career victory. Senior C.J. McCollum led the way with 23 points in 24 minutes, sophomore Stefan Cvrkalj added a career-high 20 and all 13 Mountain Hawks scored.

Mountain Hawks dominate Fairleigh Dickinson, 102-62
The Lehigh men’s basketball team jumped out to a 32-3 lead just over 10 minutes into the game, then continued to roll as the Mountain Hawks (6-2) topped Fairleigh Dickinson 102-62 on Saturday evening in Stabler Arena. Lehigh shot 63 percent from the field (38-of-60) and 58 percent from three-point range (11-of-19) in an offensive clinic.

Following a pair of games in Connecticut, the Lehigh men’s basketball team returns home for two straight beginning Saturday when it welcomes Fairleigh Dickinson for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Mountain Hawks are eying their fifth straight win overall and 10th straight over an NEC foe (dating back to 2010). McCollum takes over in impressive 77-66 win at Quinnipiac
Down 62-61 with just over five minutes left in the second half, Lehigh senior C.J. McCollum scored 14 straight Mountain Hawk (5-2) points to help Lehigh pull away for a 77-66 win at Quinnipiac on Tuesday evening. After not scoring for the game’s first 9:49, McCollum finished with 30 points, already his third game with 30+ points this season and the 17th of his career. He also posted nine rebounds and four assists to help Lehigh win at Quinnipiac for the first time in school history.

McCollum earns ECAC Player of the Week honors
Lehigh senior C.J. McCollum continues to rack in the honors, garnering ECAC Player of the Week on Tuesday just a day after earning Patriot League Player of the Week laurels. It marks McCollum’s fifth-career ECAC weekly award after garnering two in both his sophomore and junior seasons. He is also a former ECAC Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year.

Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum scored 26 points to become the Patriot League’s all-time leading scorer as the Mountain Hawks were up by as many as 30 before holding on for an impressive 91-77 win at Sacred Heart on Sunday. In total, four Mountain Hawks finished in double figures including seniors Gabe Knutson and Holden Greiner who posted 18 and 17, respectively. Sophomore Stefan Cvrkalj also added 14, including four three-pointers.

Following a strong showing in the NIT Season Tip-Off, the Lehigh men’s basketball team returns to action Sunday when it travels to Sacred Heart for a 2 p.m. tipoff. The Lehigh men’s basketball team took a one-point halftime lead and extended it in the second, opening its largest lead of the game (13) late in regulation before closing out a 73-66 win over Penn on Tuesday night in Stabler Arena. Lehigh finishes the NIT Season Tip-Off with a 3-1 record, beating three teams who won 20 or more games last season in Robert Morris, Fairfield and Penn. Mountain Hawks host NIT Season Tip-Off Monday and Tuesday
The Lehigh men’s basketball team will return to action on Monday when it hosts a consolation bracket of the NIT Season Tip-Off in Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks will welcome Fairfield and Penn both Monday and Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Fordham is also in the bracket and will play Penn Monday and Fairfield Tuesday, at 6 p.m. each day. The bracket features three teams who won more than 20 games last season while the other (Fordham) is from a strong Atlantic 10 conference.

McCollum named to Naismith Early Season Watch List
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum continues to garner impressive recognition as earlier this week, he was named to the Naismith Award Early Season Watch List. A First Team All-American by multiple outlets, McCollum was also named a Wooden Award Finalist late last week. In total, there are 50 players on the watch list which will eventually dwindle to one. The Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year presented by AT&T will be awarded on Apr. 7, 2013 in Atlanta.

McCollum named to Wooden Award preseason top 50
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum continues to rack in the honors as on Thursday, he was named to the Wooden Award preseason top 50. McCollum was the only Patriot League player named to the award’s watch list for the ultimate honor of national player of the year. The Lehigh men’s basketball team kicks off a highly-anticipated 2012-13 season on Friday when it travels to Waco, Texas to face the #19/18 Baylor Bears. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. Eastern (4 p.m. local) and will air regionally on Fox Sports Southwest. It can also be seen on Dish Channel 416 and DirecTV channel 676. McCollum earns All-America honor, Lehigh #6 in Mid-Major Top 25
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum was named a preseason Lute Olsen All-American while the Mountain Hawks were ranked sixth in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25, as announced earlier this week. A postseason All-American in 2011-12, McCollum is one of 25 players nationally on the list. He is now eligible for Lute Olsen National Player of the Year laurels, which last season went to Creighton’s Doug McDermott.

Mountain Hawks take part in Bethlehem Halloween Parade
The Lehigh men’s basketball team took time out of its busy preseason schedule to take part in the Bethlehem Halloween Parade on Sunday. The parade was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but was postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. The Mountain Hawks were Grand Marshals, heading the parade as thousands of local residents lined the streets.

Knutson and McCollum named Senior CLASS Candidates
Lehigh men’s basketball seniors Gabe Knutson and C.J. McCollum have been named candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, as announced on Wednesday. Lehigh is the only men’s basketball program to have multiple players among the candidate list of 30. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

McCollum named AP Preseason All-American
In perhaps his most impressive honor to date, Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum has been named a preseason First Team All-American, as announced by The Associated Press on Monday. McCollum joins Cody Zeller (Indiana), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State), Isaiah Cannon (Murray State) and Trey Burke (Michigan) as the top players in the nation. There were six named to the team due to a tie in voting.

Lehigh’s games at VCU and Baylor to be televised
Lehigh men’s basketball games at VCU and Baylor will air on NBC Sports Network and Fox Sports Southwest, respectively, giving the Mountain Hawks at least five nationally-televised games and several more on regional networks. Lehigh will face the Rams on Jan. 5 on NBC Sports Network (formally Versus) while the team’s opener at Baylor will air regionally in five states in the Southwest.

McCollum and Knutson named 2012-13 team captains
Lehigh head coach Brett Reed announced on Thursday that seniors C.J. McCollum and Gabe Knutson will serve as 2012-13 team captains. Both All-Patriot League performers and 1,000-point scorers, McCollum is a three-year captain while Knutson earns captain distinction for the first time. The Lehigh men’s basketball team was picked first in the Patriot League preseason poll while seniors C.J. McCollum and Gabe Knutson were both honored at the league’s Media Day held Wednesday at Arts Quest Center at SteelStacks. McCollum was named preseason Player of the Year while Knutson earned a spot on the preseason All-League Team. Both were in attendance, along with head coach Brett Reed, Bucknell’s Mike Muscala and the league’s seven other head coaches.

Chuku reflects on summer, talks upcoming season
Lehigh men’s basketball freshman Jesse Chuku enjoyed a busy summer on Great Britain’s Under 20 National Team, participating in numerous training camps and international games against a high level of competition. Lehigh Basketball to host Midnight Madness on Oct. 12
As they begin to prepare for their seasons, the Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball programs will host Midnight Madness next Friday (Oct. 12) at 10:45 p.m. in Grace Hall. Reed unveils 2012-13 Lehigh men’s basketball schedule
Lehigh head coach Brett Reed announced the Mountain Hawks’ 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday which is highlighted by nonleague trips to Baylor, Pittsburgh (for the NIT Season Tip-Off), North Texas and VCU. The Mountain Hawks will face at least six teams who advanced to national postseason tournaments a season ago, with the potential for three more. Mbonu plays key role in Nigeria Basketball’s first-ever Olympics
The Mountain Hawks shocked the world - although not themselves - when beating Duke in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Former Lehigh standout Dozie Mbonu not only enjoyed, but also played a significant role in a similar upset… although at an even bigger stage. As the manager for Nigeria’s national team, Mbonu helped the team off the ground and into Olympic qualifying rounds where it recently defeated Lithuania, Greece and John Calipari’s Dominican Republic squad.

Knutson named to NABC Academic Honors Court
Lehigh rising senior Gabe Knutson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court on Tuesday following a stellar season on the court and in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, student-athletes must meet a high standard of academic criteria. Qualifiers are juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year.

Lehigh men’s basketball standout C.J. McCollum is one of only 20 college players participating in the prestigious LeBron James Skills Academy from July 6-9 in Las Vegas. Lehigh men’s basketball was recognized by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs’ minor league baseball team (AAA Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Thursday following its second Patriot League Championship in three years and its historic win over Duke. The Lehigh men’s basketball team wraps up the first round of Patriot League play on Sunday when it welcomes Army to Stabler Arena for a special Coaches vs. Cancer Game. Lehigh pulls away from Navy in second half, 71-60
Up by three at the half, the Lehigh men’s basketball team quickly opened up a double-digit lead and wouldn’t give it up, topping a pesky Navy (3-17, 0-6 Patriot League) squad, 71-60 on Thursday in Stabler Arena. Junior C.J. McCollum led the way with his 15th-career double-double, posting 24 points and 14 rebounds. Mountain Hawks drop hard-fought 68-61 final to Bucknell
Lehigh and Bucknell battled through a back-and-forth 40 minutes of basketball, but it was the Bison (14-6, 4-0 Patriot League) who closed it out in the end, downing the Mountain Hawks (14-6, 2-2), 68-61 on Wednesday night in Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks played from behind for much of the game, taking one second half lead then pulling within one on multiple occasions, but couldn’t get over the hump.

McCollum earns ECAC Player of the Week
One day after breaking the Patriot League record with his ninth Player of the Week honor, Lehigh junior guard C.J. McCollum was recognized by the ECAC on Tuesday as its Player of the Week. It marks McCollum’s third-career ECAC weekly honor after being recognized twice a season ago. Despite a strong second-half surge, the Lehigh men’s basketball team fell victim to a hot-shooting Crusaders’ team in dropping its Patriot League opener at Holy Cross, 84-78 on Saturday.
