Lehigh men’s hoops makes a difference at Nitschmann Middle School
Just one day before the Lehigh men’s basketball team holds its first official practice the Mountain Hawks hit the road for a community service event at Nitschmann Middle School on Thursday. Lehigh head coach Brett Reed, along with several players, conducted a presentation to the eight graders at the middle school, focusing on five key components to becoming successful in the classroom and in life.

Chuku reflects on summer, talks upcoming season
Lehigh men’s basketball freshman Jesse Chuku enjoyed a busy summer on Great Britain’s Under 20 National Team, participating in numerous training camps and international games against a high level of competition. Chuku faced a number of players from other colleges and some professional players from Europe, which will undoubtedly help his transition to college basketball.

Lehigh basketball tickets on sale Thursday
With the season less than a month away, Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball season tickets will go on sale this Thursday while individual game tickets will follow next Thursday (Oct. 18). Following exciting 2011-12 seasons, anticipation has never been higher for the Mountain Hawks’ programs, as the men eye their third Patriot League Championship in the last four years while the women vie for their third title in the last five seasons.

Lehigh Basketball to host Midnight Madness on Oct. 12
As they begin to prepare for their seasons, the Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball programs will host Midnight Madness next Friday (Oct. 12) at 10:45 p.m. in Grace Hall. It will serve as a tremendous opportunity for students and fans to meet and interact with the Lehigh basketball players up close and personal. There will be contests, music, giveaways and much more as the Mountain Hawks kick off 2012-13. The event is free of charge.

Reed unveils 2012-13 Lehigh men’s basketball schedule
Lehigh head coach Brett Reed announced the Mountain Hawks’ 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday which is highlighted by nonleague trips to Baylor, Pittsburgh (for the NIT Season Tip-Off), North Texas and VCU. The Mountain Hawks will face at least six teams who advanced to national postseason tournaments a season ago, with the potential for three more. In addition, Lehigh will play at least four games on CBS Sports Network through the Patriot League’s national television package.

McCollum named preseason First Team All-American by Sporting News
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum was named a preseason First Team All-American by Sporting News on Monday, joining a star-studded group of the nation’s top players. Entering his senior season with 2,074 career points, McCollum joins Cody Zeller (Indiana), Doug McDermott (Creighton), James Michael McAdoo (North Carolina) and Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State) as First Team honorees.

Lehigh to play in NIT Season Tip-Off
Coming off its best season in program history, the Lehigh men’s basketball team will compete in the NIT Season Tip-Off, as announced by NIT selection committee chair C.M. Newton on Tuesday. The Mountain Hawks will travel to Pittsburgh where they’ll face Robert Morris in the first round on Nov. 12. Lehigh will then play Pitt or Fordham the following night in either the Regional Final, with a berth to the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on the line, or Consolation Game.

Lehigh to receive its championship rings Saturday
The Lehigh men’s basketball team will receive its Patriot League Championship rings in a special halftime ceremony at Saturday’s season-opening football game vs. Monmouth. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. in Goodman Stadium. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a historic season, winning their second Patriot League Championship in the last three years.

Lehigh men’s basketball visits Donegan Community School
Coming off a historic NCAA Tournament run and one of the best seasons in program history, the Lehigh men’s basketball team wasted no time making a difference in the community, visiting Donegan Community School on Monday. With school underway across Bethlehem, head coach Brett Reed and senior C.J. McCollum attended the local elementary school’s pep rally and delivered a message to the youngsters regarding the importance of education, respecting yourself and discipline (among many others).

Mbonu plays key role in Nigeria Basketball’s first-ever Olympics
The Mountain Hawks shocked the world - although not themselves - when beating Duke in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Former Lehigh standout Dozie Mbonu not only enjoyed, but also played a significant role in a similar upset… although at an even bigger stage. As the manager for Nigeria’s national team, Mbonu helped the team off the ground and into Olympic qualifying rounds where it recently defeated Lithuania, Greece and John Calipari’s Dominican Republic squad.

Lehigh rising senior C.J. McCollum has enjoyed a busy summer fine-tuning his game at various skills academies hosted by NBA stars. The two-time Patriot League Player of the Year was a standout at the Chris Paul, Kevin Durant and LeBron James Skills Academies, learning from the best of the best as he prepares for a much-anticipated senior season.

Knutson named to NABC Academic Honors Court
Lehigh rising senior Gabe Knutson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court on Tuesday following a stellar season on the court and in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, student-athletes must meet a high standard of academic criteria. Qualifiers are juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year.

McCollum earns invite to prestigious LeBron James Skills Academy
Lehigh men’s basketball standout C.J. McCollum is one of only 20 college players participating in the prestigious LeBron James Skills Academy from July 6-9 in Las Vegas. Earlier this summer, McCollum took part in the Kevin Durant camp before being invited to the selective LeBron James Academy. The nation’s top players will hone their games in front of hundreds of media members and scouts from every NBA team.

Vote Lehigh! ESPY voting continues through Monday
Voting for the 2012 ESPY Awards runs through Monday, July 9 at 11:59 p.m. so be sure to vote Lehigh over Duke as “Best Upset” before it’s too late. The Mountain Hawks are competing with three other teams in that category, along with Norfolk State men’s basketball, Iowa State football and Los Angeles Kings of the NHL. The 20th ESPY Awards are set for next Wednesday (July 11) at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Lehigh men’s basketball’s thrilling NCAA Second Round win over Duke has been nominated for the ESPY “Best Upset,” as announced on Wednesday. Short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, the 20th ESPYS are set for Wednesday, July 11 at 9 p.m. ET, live on ESPN. This year’s event will take place at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles with host Rob Riggle.

Mountain Hawks place six on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
Six from the Lehigh men’s basketball team have been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, as announced on Tuesday. Three posted spring semester GPAs of 3.60 or higher, led by sophomore Anthony D’Orazio who tallied a 3.85 grade point average as a Business major.

Ten Lehigh teams receive APR public recognition awards
Ten Lehigh athletic teams were honored with Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards, as announced by the NCAA on Thursday. Awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in their respective sport with their Academic Progress Rate (APR). This marks the fourth straight year that Lehigh has seen ten or more of its programs honored.

Mountain Hawks to host Boys Basketball Camps this summer
The Patriot League Champion Lehigh men’s basketball team will host two day camp sessions this summer for boys grades 1 through 8, beginning with Session I from June 18-22 and concluding with Session II from July 30 - August 3. Youngsters will receive instruction from head coach Brett Reed and the same Lehigh players and coaches who defeated Duke in the NCAA Tournament this March.
