Intramural Softball Rules

Softball Rules

General

• On days of rain, call the office (84310) at 3 pm for cancellations
• Captains must agree on the field ground rules
• Only rubber soled shoes are permitted
• A Designated Hitter is NOT permitted
• 10 run rule in effect after completion of 5th inning
• Games are 7 innings unless using the Double Header Rule
• 9 people constitute a team but you may play with 7
  • Teams must have a pitcher and catcher
  • Catcher must wear the mask

Playing Regulations

• You may not BUNT, STEAL or LEAVE the base before the ball Crosses the plate
• A fake tag is considered and obstruction. Runner advances 1 base
• Runners can only advance 1 base on an overthrow according to the ½ way rule
• Runners may not collide with the fielder. The ball is declared dead and the runner out
• All batted balls are in play
• Sliding HEAD FIRST is not permitted – Automatic Out

Pitching Regulations

• During the wind up, the pitcher may rise his/her arm no higher than shoulder level and release no higher than the hip. Arc of @ least 5 feet and no higher than 10 feet
• No balls or strikes are called. Three swing at bat whether hey are misses or fouls will constitute an out
• If the batter is hit by the pitch, there is no advancement of bases by the player
