Rust Football Pavilion dedication set for Sept. 6

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh Football team will open its 2008 season on Saturday, September 6 versus Drake University at Goodman Stadium. Earlier that morning, the Lehigh Athletic Department will dedicate a brand new facility, The Rust Family Football Pavilion, named in honor of former Lehigh football player C. Keith Rust ‘57 and his sons, Chip ’82 and Craig ’88, and his daughter-in-law Shannon ’90. The pavilion, which is located on Goodman Drive, will open that morning at 10:30 with a pregame tailgate, followed by the official dedication ceremony, which will get underway at 11:30.
It was the vision of Keith Rust that Lehigh have a place for football alumni to gather before and after home football games to celebrate the great tradition of Lehigh Football. The Athletics Department has dedicated a parking lot near the Rust Family Football Pavilion for football alumni. All football alumni are entitled to reserved parking passes in this lot for any home game they plan to attend.
“Lehigh Football and the atmosphere that the tailgating experience brings each fall has been a big part of our family for a long time and the pavilion seemed like a perfect way to share that with fellow alumni when they return to Lehigh for home games,” Rust stated. “To be a small part of that tradition as it moves forward is pretty special to all of us.”
“Keith Rust has been one of our most consistent and most sincere athletics loyalists,” explained Lehigh Dean of Athletics Joe Sterrett. “His commitment to help us realize the vision for a place that our football alumni can gather every fall is quite fitting. The participation of his family members makes this an even more special project as clearly it is also grounded in our value of family."
Lehigh’s football team will kick-off its 2008 season on Saturday, September 6 versus Drake at Goodman Stadium. New this season, all Lehigh home games begin at 12:30. Tickets for the game can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall between the hours of 10 and 4, or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
