Lehigh heads to New Jersey to face Princeton
Posted: September 11, 2007
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a matchup of 2006 league champions, Lehigh hits the road for the first time as the Mountain Hawks head to New Jersey to take on Princeton in the Tigers season opener under the lights at Princeton Stadium on Saturday evening. The Mountain Hawks fell to Villanova last weekend at home in their season opener 30-20 despite a slew of career-high performances, and are seeking revenge from last year’s loss to the Tigers at Goodman Stadium. Princeton meanwhile, is coming off a 9-1 2006 season which included a share of the Ivy League title and is looking for its fourth consecutive season opening victory.
Several Mountain Hawks established new career-highs in the season opener versus Villanova. Senior quarterback Sedale Threatt threw for a career-high 302 yards on a career-best 29 completions and 53 attempts. Junior wide outs Mike Fitzgerald (6 catches, 47 yards), Nick Johnson (four catches, 67 yards) and Sekou Yansane (eight receptions, 99 yards), classmate Troy Healion (3 catches) and defensive lineman Brian Jackson (10 total tackles, 2 sacks) all set new career-bests.
The Tigers open their 2007 season Saturday evening and are coming off a 9-1 2006 campaign in which they earned a share of the Ivy League title. Princeton returns 36 letterwinners, including 15 starters, off a team that finished the 2006 season with a national ranking of 18 and lost only to Cornell in Ithaca, New York. All-Ivy League selections Brendan Circle and Pete Buchignani return along with tailback Rob Toresco, but the Tigers will break in a new signal caller after Jeff Terrell, who threw for 2,445 yards and 17 touchdowns a season ago, graduated.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 6:07 from Princeton Stadium. The contest will be shown live on WFMZ-TV, FSN Pittsburgh, Fox College Sports Atlantic and Lehighsports.com beginning at 6:00 with Steve Degler and Marty Horn ‘86. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN Radio beginning at 5:00 with Matt Kerr, Kody Fedorcha ’00, Tom Fallon and Matt Markus.
