Lehigh announces football broadcast schedule

Posted: August 20, 2007

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the football season set to kick off in a few short weeks, Lehigh Athletics has announced its 2007 football broadcast schedule.  This year, nine of Lehigh’s eleven regular season games will be televised – many available nationwide.  For the fourth straight season, all football games will air live on ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley, located at 1230 (WEEX-AM, Easton) and 1320 (WTKZ-AM, Allentown).  As always, each and every game will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site as part of the Yahoo! Sports College Broadcast package.  An industry leader in on-line broadcasts, Lehigh Athletics will make available over 200 events on its web site in 2007-08.

Lehigh Athletics enters its 20th season of local, regional, and national football coverage on commercial television.  Nationally, Lehigh football can be seen on DirecTV channel 628 and DISH Network channel 428, as well as on Fox College Sports (available in over 56 million homes via digital cable systems nationwide).  Regionally on FSN Pittsburgh, fans in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Scranton and parts of Maryland, West Virginia, and Ohio can follow Lehigh football, while the WFMZ-TV signal can be seen in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, Reading, and Western New Jersey.  Locally, Lehigh football can be seen in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric Cable’s award-winning 2 Sports outlet.  Service Electric is the area’s largest cable provider.

Nationally known and respected announcing teams plus high-quality production are also distinctions of Lehigh football telecasts.  Steve Degler (voice of Reading Phillies baseball), former Lehigh quarterback and Penske Hall of Fame member Marty Horn ’86 and former Lehigh linebacker Mike Yadush ’93 call the action on a national and regional level.  Locally, Mike Zambelli (Service Electric Sports Director) joins Yadush to handle the announcing duties.

Lehigh football can be heard on commercial radio exclusively on the home of Lehigh Athletics, ESPN Radio of the Lehigh Valley (1230 and 1320 AM). Renowned veteran Matt Kerr is back to call the play-by-play for his 11th season.  Kerr will be joined in the booth by former Lehigh standouts Marty Horn '86 and Kody Fedorcha '00, as they team up to provide color commentary.  For the first time, ESPN Radio’s Matt Markus will patrol the sidelines for every Lehigh football broadcast.  Radio coverage begins an hour prior to kick-off, with Markus and ESPN Program Director Tom Fallon anchoring the pre-game, halftime, and post-game festivities.

Lehigh fans around the world will continue to have access to the games, thanks to the Lehigh Athletics partnership with Yahoo! Sports.  Due to overwhelmingly positive feedback, virtually every broadcast will again feature live streaming video in addition to play-by-play audio at no additional charge.  This season, nine of the Mountain Hawks’ games will feature live and on-demand streaming video at Lehighsports.com.

The on-line package also includes access to the Lehigh Sports Magazine – Lehigh’s weekly television show featuring highlights and interviews from coaches and student-athletes, including an appearance by head football coach Andy Coen each week.  Other exclusive on-line events include streaming video from Lehigh’s weekly football media luncheon, available on-demand each week beginning Wednesday afternoons.

All game broadcasts on-line are aired live, and are available on-demand for enjoyment at any time.  A nominal monthly subscription fee of $4.95 is required to access the package.

The 2007 Mountain Hawks open their season on Saturday, September 8, when Lehigh plays host to Villanova at Goodman Stadium.  Radio pre-game coverage gets underway at noon, with Service Electric 2 Sports air time at 1:00 pm.
