BETHLEHEM, Pa. – John Reese has been named a Preseason Third-Team All-American by the Sports Network. The senior captain has been an integral part of the Mountain Hawks offensive line during each of the past two seasons, starting every game in that time and garnering All-League accolades twice. Reese was named the number-three center in all of FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) football by the Sports Network in June.
Reese helped pave the way for First-Team All-Patriot League quarterback Sedale Threatt and an offense that led the league in scoring offense and averaged more than 340 yards per game in 2006. A two time captain, Reese joins Colgate running back Jordan Scott as the lone Patriot League representatives on offense on the Sports Network Preseason All-America teams. Colgate linebacker Mike Gallihugh, Fordham punter Benjamin Dato and Holy Cross defensive back Casey Gough were also selected to the teams.
Also this week, the Sports Network released its preseason FCS top-25 poll, and the Mountain Hawks were among those schools receiving other votes as they totaled 77 votes. No Patriot League schools are ranked among the top-25, which includes Mountain Hawk opponent Yale (No. 24).
Reese and the Mountain Hawks are currently in preseason camp with an eye towards the 2007 season opener, slated for Saturday, September 8 at Goodman Stadium when Lehigh welcomes Colonial Athletic Association member Villanova to town. Kick off is set for just after 1:00 and tickets can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall or by logging onto Lehighsports.com at anytime.
