Knott named Patriot League Rookie of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a strong debut effort for the Lehigh football team, freshman Derek Knott was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday. Knott had a pair of receptions in the Mountain Hawks’ 27-17 win over Monmouth at Goodman Stadium, including a 19 yard catch-and-run for a touchdown on his first career reception.
 
With less than five minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Knott caught a swing pass in the left flat from quarterback Mike Colvin and with the help of several key blocks raced down the sideline for a touchdown that gave the Mountain Hawks a 14-0 advantage. The Orlando, Fla. native finished with two catches for 15 yards on the day. He also returned two kickoffs for a total of 29 yards, with a long return of 22 yards early in the third quarter.
 
Knott is the first Mountain Hawk to be named Patriot League Rookie of the Week since 2009. That year three different Lehigh players earned Rookie of the Week honors: Colvin (twice), Zach Barket and Bryan Andrews.
 
Also Monday, Colvin received an honorable mention from the league for his performance against the Hawks. Colvin picked up his first win as a starting quarterback, completing 17-of-32 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing 13 times for 56 yards and another score.
 
Lehigh remains at No. 16 in the Sports Network FCS Top 25 announced Monday, while the Mountain Hawks fell three spots to No. 14 in the FCS Coaches Poll.
 
The Mountain Hawks will take to the road for the first time in 2012 on Saturday when they visit Central Connecticut State at noon. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as Lehighsports.com, with pregame coverage beginning at 11 a.m.
