Barket repeats as member of FCS ADA Academic All-Star team
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior running back Zach Barket has been named to the 15th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team, it was announced on Thursday. Barket is one of 54 student-athletes from across the country selected to the team, and one of five representatives from the Patriot League. He appears on the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team for the second straight season.
Barket ended the fall semester with a 3.46 cumulative grade point average in accounting, which ranks at the top among Mountain Hawk regulars. Last month the Schuylkill Haven, Pa. native was named to the Capital One Academic All-America second team, the first such honor for a Lehigh football player since 1998.
A multi-year member of Lehigh’s Dean’s List as well as the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Barket is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection and a two-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree.
On the field, Barket overcame a serious lower leg injury suffered in November 2011 to lead the Mountain Hawks in rushing with 525 yards on 139 carries. He also scored a career-high five rushing touchdowns in 2012 and added 18 receptions for 110 yards. The best game of Barket’s senior season was a 28-carry, 123-yard, one touchdown effort in Lehigh’s 17-14 win at Georgetown on October 13.
A four-year letter winner, Barket averaged 4.3 yards per carry for the Mountain Hawks. He amassed 1,549 career receiving yards and 12 rushing touchdowns while catching 65 passes for 553 yards and six touchdowns. Barket was a first team All-Patriot League selection in 2011 and was a key contributor on Lehigh’s Patriot League championship teams in 2010 and 2011.
Each of the nominees for the FCS ADA Academic All-Star team were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletic credentials. The nominee must have reached his second year of athletic and academic standing and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
