Posted: 01/03/2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior running back Zach Barket has been named to the 14th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team, it was announced on Tuesday. Barket is one of 58 student-athletes from across the country selected to the team, and one of four representatives from the Patriot League.

Barket maintains a 3.59 grade point average, tops on the football team, as an accounting major at Lehigh. A native of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., Barket is a multi-year member of the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has received Lehigh’s faculty athletics council’s academic award.

In November, Barket was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II football team and was also one of three Mountain Hawks selected to the Academic All-Patriot League football team.

On the field, Barket led the Mountain Hawks in rushing, despite suffering a season-ending lower leg injury in Lehigh’s Patriot League championship clinching win over Georgetown. He finished with 706 yards on 143 rushes (a 4.9 yard per carry average), and scored four rushing touchdowns. Barket also ranked third fourth on the Mountain Hawks with 33 receptions for 329 yards and five touchdowns.

Barket totaled 108 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in Lehigh’s season-opening win at Monmouth on September 3. His best game of the season came October 29 at Colgate when Barket rushed 21 times for a career-high 188 yards and totaled four touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) in a 45-25 Lehigh victory.
Each of the nominees for the FCS ADA Academic All-Star team were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletic credentials. The nominee must have reached his second year of athletic and academic standing and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position.
