BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh sophomore forward Lindsay Metzger has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced on Thursday. Also a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree, Metzger owns a stellar 3.48 GPA in the College of Arts and Sciences while tying for the team lead with eight goals on the season.
A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Metzger has garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award (for a GPA over 3.2) while she’s earned a spot on the Dean’s List (for a GPA over 3.6). She was also a member of the 2011 NFHCA National Academic Squad.
Metzger emerged on the field this season, posting eight goals, one assist and 17 points (second on the team and eighth in the league). Her highlight game came against Towson when she celebrated her birthday with her first-career hat trick in a 6-3 win over Towson. That earned Metzger Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors. She scored big league goals against Bucknell and Holy Cross while also netting goals at Penn, Fairfield and Georgetown.
Metzger and senior Kim Eng were both named All-Patriot League earlier Thursday, with Eng earning First Team laurels for the third time in her decorated career.
Despite falling short of the Patriot League Tournament, the 2012 Lehigh field hockey team did have its highlights. The Mountain Hawks beat a CAA team for the first time since 2006 while scoring their most goals since 2004 in that contest. Lehigh also topped perennial NEC power Monmouth for the first time since 2005. A young squad returns 22-of-28 players in 2013.
