Lehigh assistant coach Susan Ciufo named to U.S. Indoor National Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh field hockey assistant coach and former Drexel standout Susan Ciufo has earned a spot on the U.S. Indoor National Team squad, as announced earlier this week. Ciufo will compete for the United States in a number of December tournaments to ultimately prepare for the Pan American Games next August.

“It’s an honor to represent your country,” said Ciufo. “I’m honored to be able to put on a USA jersey. It’s great for our program here; I’m excited to learn more and give more back to the [Lehigh] team.”

Ciufo will play for her former coach at Drexel, Denise Zelenak, who now coaches the Indoor National Team.

In her first year as assistant coach at Lehigh, Ciufo enjoyed a standout career at Drexel, highlighted by a 2009 campaign which saw the Dragons not only advance to the NCAA Tournament, but also upset UConn in the first round. That year, she scored 21 goals (second highest in school history) while tying for second in the CAA with 51 points.

The playoff-bound Mountain Hawks look ahead to their regular season finale at Holy Cross on Saturday. Lehigh will then make its third Patriot League Tournament appearance in the last five years on Friday, Nov. 4.
