Ciufo to travel with U.S. Indoor Team for Vienna tournament
Lehigh field hockey assistant Susan Ciufo will travel with the U.S. Indoor National Team to Vienna, Austria for the Rohrmax Cup next week. The tournament is set for Jan. 4-6. Ciufo has been heavily involved with USA Field Hockey for more than a year, participating in numerous practices and tournaments with the nation’s top field hockey players.

Lehigh tied for second in initial Presidents' Cup standings
The Patriot League announced its initial Presidents’ Cup standings on Tuesday with Lehigh tied for second overall at the completion of the fall season. Lehigh checks in with 32 points and tops the men’s overall standings with 16 points. The Mountain Hawk women are tied for fifth place with 16 points.

Lehigh field hockey’s First Annual Fox Trot 5K a big success
Senior Kelsey Zeswitz and the Lehigh field hockey team organized the First Annual Fox Trot 5K for Parkinson’s Research on Sunday as more than one hundred people took part in the event. The 5K was organized with Kelsey’s mother Chrissie in mind, who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s two summers ago. In total, the event raised over $12,000 (over $6,000 which was then matched by the co-founder of Google).

Metzger named to Academic All-Patriot League Team
Lehigh sophomore forward Lindsay Metzger has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced on Thursday. Also a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree, Metzger owns a stellar 3.48 GPA in the College of Arts and Sciences while tying for the team lead with eight goals on the season.

Eng and Metzger earn All-Patriot League honors
Lehigh forwards Kim Eng and Lindsay Metzger have garnered All-Patriot League laurels, as announced on Thursday. Eng earned a spot on the First Team for the third time in her career while Metzger captured Second Team honors. Both among the league leaders in goals and points, Eng finished 2012 with 22 points (eight goals, six assists) while Metzger posted 17 (eight goals, one assist). The duo combined for more than half of Lehigh’s goals on the season.

Mountain Hawks drop season finale to #11 Lafayette
The Lehigh field hockey team battled hard, but struggled to convert in an 8-0 loss to #11 Lafayette on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks tied the Leopards in second-half shots (10-10), this against a Lafayette squad who hadn’t allowed a shot in over a game. It was also Senior Day as Lehigh’s six seniors were recognized prior to the contest.

Mountain Hawks host #11 Lafayette Saturday on Senior Day
The Lehigh field hockey team wraps up its season on Saturday with a big Senior Day matchup against the archrival Leopards. Gametime is set for 11 a.m. Saturday marks the squad’s first home game in three weeks, and 10th of the season at the friendly confines of the Ulrich Sports Complex. Lafayette is the Mountain Hawks’ third ranked opponent of the season and second at home (along with Penn State).

Lehigh field hockey senior tribute
The 2012 Lehigh field hockey senior class has advanced to two Patriot League Tournaments in their careers, including last season when they finished with a 3-2 league mark for the first time since 2007. This year, the Mountain Hawks defeated a CAA team for the first time since 2006 while scoring their most goals since 2004 in that contest. With Senior Day rapidly approaching on Saturday, check out this tribute of the six Lehigh seniors.

Eng Engineers Success
Kim Eng is one of six Lehigh field hockey seniors who will play their final regular season game on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks host archrival Lafayette at 11 a.m. Hard to believe it was three years ago when she entered Lehigh with a bang, posting a Patriot League leading 13 goals and 34 points. Over her career, she helped lead the Mountain Hawks to two league tournaments while becoming one of Lehigh’s all-time greatest scorers in the process.

Lehigh drops hard-fought 6-2 final at Bucknell
The Lehigh field hockey team hung tough at Bucknell, staying within 1-0 for much of the game before the Bison scored four goals in a 10:01 span to down the Mountain Hawks on Saturday, 6-2. Lehigh wouldn’t quit, getting second-half goals from junior Marie Mignogna and sophomore Lindsay Metzger. The Mountain Hawks will wrap up their season when they host archrival Lafayette next Saturday for Senior Day.

The Lehigh field hockey team will travel to Lewisburg Saturday to take on Bucknell at 12 p.m. in its penultimate game of the regular season. The Mountain Hawks will be playing their third straight road game, looking to snap a five-game losing skid and jump right back into the Patriot League Tournament race.

Lehigh falls at #23 Albany
The Lehigh field hockey team struggled on the back end of its two-game road swing, falling to #23 Albany 9-0 on Sunday. The Great Danes broke open a close 1-0 game with three goals in the final 7:21 of the first half. The Mountain Hawks will now look ahead to a big Patriot League tilt at Bucknell Saturday.

Mountain Hawks drop 3-1 final at Colgate
The Lehigh field hockey team came out with a vengeance, firing six shots on goal in an 8:13 span, but Colgate responded to defeat the Mountain Hawks, 3-1, on Saturday. Elaina Brown scored all three goals for the Raiders while Lehigh senior Kim Eng added a tally just 6:37 into the second half. Lehigh continues its busy weekend Sunday when it travels to #23 Albany to face the Great Danes.

Lehigh set for crucial weekend at Colgate and #23 Albany
Following three straight losses, the Lehigh field hockey team will look to bounce back when it travels to Colgate Saturday (11 a.m.) and Albany Sunday (2 p.m.). Despite dropping their first two league games, the Mountain Hawks would jump right back into the Patriot League Tournament mix with a win on Saturday. Lehigh then plays its final nonleague game of the season at #23 Albany Sunday.

Fox Trot 5K for Parkinson’s Research less than a week away
Lehigh field hockey’s Fox Trot 5K for Parkinson’s Research is quickly approaching, now less than two weeks away on Sunday, Oct. 28. As of Monday (Oct. 22), the Mountain Hawks have raised $4,300, well surpassing their $2,500 goal. Fans can still make a difference by registering and/or donating. Registration fee is 20 dollars, which includes a Fox Trot 5K t-shirt. All proceeds go towards Parkinson’s research.

Strong start not enough in loss to American
Lehigh played tough against perennial Patriot League power American, playing scoreless field hockey through the first 24 minutes, but the Eagles responded with a vengeance to down the Mountain Hawks 9-2 on Saturday. Lehigh allowed only two shots in those first 24 minutes before the Eagles’ offense came alive. Junior Emily Torcivia and freshman Erin Ricker scored second-half goals as the Mountain Hawks hung tough until the final horn.

Lehigh hosts American Saturday in big league showdown
Coming off a pair of tough defeats last weekend, the Lehigh field hockey team will look to even its Patriot League record when it hosts perennial power American on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Mountain Hawks look to bounce back after a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime defeat to Holy Cross before dropping a nonleague contest at Rider. American also comes in at 0-1 in league play after falling to Lafayette at home, 4-1.

Mountain Hawks fall at Rider
The Lehigh field hockey team dropped its second straight game on Sunday, falling at Rider by an 8-0 final. The Mountain Hawks were within 1-0 for the first 20 minutes until the Broncs scored three times in 1:24 to effectively put the game away. Sophomore goalie Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson made 14 saves in the defeat.

Lehigh drops hard-fought 5-4 decision to Holy Cross in OT
The Lehigh field hockey team came back from a 3-1 halftime deficit to force overtime, but Holy Cross scored 9:46 into the extra session to hand the Mountain Hawks a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat on Saturday, in the Patriot League opener for both sides. Freshman Lindsey Schott and sophomore Lindsay Metzger tied the score in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. Lehigh returns to action in less than 24 hours when it heads to Rider to face the Broncs.

Making a difference for mom
Most college students (never mind student-athletes) have enough on their mind. For Kelsey Zeswitz, she’s gone through the normal stresses of a college student-athlete, plus more, ever since her sophomore year when her life changed. The summer of 2010 was when Kelsey’s mother was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s. Now two years later, Kelsey and her Lehigh field hockey teammates are doing something extremely meaningful; they’re taking part in the Lehigh Valley Fox Trot 5K on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Fitzpatrick named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Lehigh freshman goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after a strong weekend which was highlighted by her six-save performance in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Monmouth. She helped lead the Mountain Hawks’ efforts in allowing just two goals while posting a .800 save percentage for the week.

Lehigh picks up big 2-1 win over Monmouth
The Lehigh field hockey team impressed from the opening whistle and carried the momentum as the Mountain Hawks defeated Monmouth, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Senior Kim Eng scored both Lehigh goals while freshman goalkeeper Sophie Fitzpatrick played her strongest, making six saves, three in each half. Junior Marie Mignogna also made a big defensive save late in the second half to preserve the victory.

Sacred Heart scored an early goal and wouldn’t look back as the Pioneers downed the Lehigh field hockey team, 4-0, on Friday evening. The Mountain Hawks held an 18-16 edge in shots, but couldn’t convert as Sacred Heart goalie Mary Altepeter made 10 saves to stifle Lehigh’s attack. The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back on Sunday vs. Monmouth in their final tuneup before Patriot League play.

Metzger named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week
Lehigh field hockey sophomore Lindsay Metzger was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring four goals over two games. On Sunday, Metzger scored three goals on her 20th birthday to lead Lehigh past Towson, 6-3. The Mountain Top, Pa. native also scored a goal on Friday at Fairfield and now leads the Patriot League with five goals on the season.

Sophomore Lindsay Metzger scored a hat trick on her 20th birthday to lead an offense which netted its most goals since 2004 as the Lehigh field hockey team topped Towson, 6-3, on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks opened a 4-0 lead less than 29 minutes into the game and wouldn’t look back. Junior Caitlyn Mitchell, freshman Erin Ricker and senior Kim Eng also added goals in the victory.

Despite a strong effort down the stretch, the Lehigh field hockey team couldn’t come back from a 2-0 deficit, falling to Fairfield, 4-2 on Friday afternoon. Coming off a pair of competitive games last weekend, the Lehigh field hockey team will travel to Fairfield on Friday (4 p.m.) before hosting Towson Sunday (12 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks have been within a single goal with less than 12 minutes remaining of all four games thus far, but have been unable to get over the hump. The Lehigh field hockey team bounced back from its season opening loss with a strong effort, but was unable to beat Liberty goalie Brooke Morley in 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. It marked the Mountain Hawks’ second straight one goal defeat to start the season. Lehigh Athletics season, fall broadcast schedule to begin Friday
With the fall season set to get underway on Friday, Lehigh Athletics has announced its fall broadcast schedule. For the third straight year Lehigh has partnered with Stretch Internet to deliver fans live action via the Lehigh GameCentral portal. Most men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball home contests will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site as part of the GameCentral pay-per-view offering.

Season Preview: Lehigh looks to continue its momentum in 2012
The Lehigh field hockey team showed it could play with the best in the Patriot League last season. Owning a 3-2 league mark for the first time since 2007, the Mountain Hawks earned big wins over Colgate, league finalist Bucknell and Holy Cross. Perhaps their most impressive victory came over Bucknell, the same Bison team which twice defeated perennial power American, who was riding eight straight Patriot League regular season and tournament championships.

Mountain Hawks picked fourth; two named preseason All-League
The Lehigh field hockey team was predicted fourth in the Patriot League preseason poll released Monday while senior Kim Eng and junior Sierra Segear were named to the inaugural preseason All-League team. The Mountain Hawks finished last season with a 3-2 league mark (their best finish since 2007) while earning the #3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh returns all four of its All-Patriot League performers from that team while welcoming 12 freshmen.

Lehigh field hockey deep in preseason practice
The Lehigh field hockey team is deep into its preseason practice after opening up camp on Sunday. Since, the Mountain Hawks have put in many hours of practice, along with a scrimmage, as they prepare for their season opener next Saturday vs. Ball State. Ciufo continues active involvement with USA Field Hockey
Lehigh assistant coach Susan Ciufo has enjoyed a busy summer with USA Field Hockey as she continues to play against, and learn from, the best in the sport. Ciufo led Team PA to the championship game of the Outdoor National Championships in June while she’s also on the Indoor National Team. The Bangor, Pa. native enjoyed a standout career at Drexel where she led the Dragons to the 2009 National Quarterfinals.

Lehigh field hockey releases 2012 schedule
Lehigh head coach Stacey Blue announced the team’s 2012 schedule on Thursday, which includes 10 home games highlighted by a tilt with national power Penn State and league showdowns against Holy Cross, American and Lafayette. In total, the Mountain Hawks face three teams who won their conference a season ago: Penn State (Big Ten), Rider (NEC) and Lafayette (Patriot League).

Miller, Prosser and Sterrett head to Chicago for service project
Former Lehigh student-athletes Jessica Miller (field hockey), Erica Prosser (women’s basketball) and Julie Sterrett (softball and current Athletics Leadership Coordinator) traveled to Chicago the weekend of June 8-10 to take part in a community service project. The trio attended as part of SALSC (Student-Athletes Leading Social Change), spending the better part of their Saturday painting Banneker Elementary School through the annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon.

Ten Lehigh teams receive APR public recognition awards
Ten Lehigh athletic teams were honored with Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Awards, as announced by the NCAA on Thursday. Awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in their respective sport with their Academic Progress Rate (APR). This marks the fourth straight year that Lehigh has seen ten or more of its programs honored.

Blue welcomes 12 incoming freshmen to field hockey program
Lehigh head coach Stacey Blue has announced the incoming class of 2016, which features a talented group from around the country. The 12 incomers will join the program this fall, looking to help the Mountain Hawks continue their success following a strong 2011 campaign. Nine of the 12 incomers are from Pennsylvania or nearby New Jersey, including two from powerhouse Emmaus High School in the Lehigh Valley.

Lehigh field hockey takes part in Third Annual Run to Live
Deep into its spring season, the Lehigh field hockey team took time out of its busy schedule to take part in a 5K walk last Saturday morning (Mar. 24) to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley. The Third Annual Run to LIVE featured an 8K run, 5k walk and 1/2 mile fun run on the Ironton Rail Trail in Whitehall, Pa. The Mountain Hawks walked as a team to benefit pediatric cancer.

Following a strong season on the field and in the classroom, nine Lehigh field hockey players have been named to the 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced on Monday. The Mountain Hawks also earned an academic team award for posting a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Lehigh places 10 on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
Ten members of the Lehigh field hockey team were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday, capping off an impressive season on and off the field. The Mountain Hawks finished 3-2 in league play to earn a spot in the Patriot League Tournament while garnering numerous academic accolades including the Patriot League’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Mountain Hawks look back at season at annual team banquet
On Sunday, Jan. 15, the Lehigh field hockey team reflected on a strong 2011 season at its annual team banquet in the University Center. The banquet was a celebration of a season which featured the Mountain Hawks’ third Patriot League Tournament appearance in the last five years, along with a number of individual accolades including four All-League selections and two major Patriot League awards.
