Making a difference for mom
Most college students (never mind student-athletes) have enough on their mind. For Kelsey Zeswitz, she’s gone through the normal stresses of a college student-athlete, plus more, ever since her sophomore year when her life changed. The summer of 2010 was when Kelsey’s mother was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s. Now two years later, Kelsey and her Lehigh field hockey teammates are doing something extremely meaningful; they’re taking part in the Lehigh Valley Fox Trot 5K on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Fitzpatrick named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Lehigh freshman goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after a strong weekend which was highlighted by her six-save performance in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Monmouth. She helped lead the Mountain Hawks’ efforts in allowing just two goals while posting a .800 save percentage for the week.

Lehigh picks up big 2-1 win over Monmouth
The Lehigh field hockey team impressed from the opening whistle and carried the momentum as the Mountain Hawks defeated Monmouth, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Senior Kim Eng scored both Lehigh goals while freshman goalkeeper Sophie Fitzpatrick played her strongest, making six saves, three in each half. Junior Marie Mignogna also made a big defensive save late in the second half to preserve the victory.

Mountain Hawks drop 4-0 final to Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart scored an early goal and wouldn’t look back as the Pioneers downed the Lehigh field hockey team, 4-0, on Friday evening. The Mountain Hawks held an 18-16 edge in shots, but couldn’t convert as Sacred Heart goalie Mary Altepeter made 10 saves to stifle Lehigh’s attack. The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back on Sunday vs. Monmouth in their final tuneup before Patriot League play.

Mountain Hawks return home to host NEC foes this weekend
The Lehigh field hockey team will look to carry its momentum from a 3-2 win over Georgetown when it hosts Sacred Heart this Friday at 7 p.m. and Monmouth on Sunday at 12 p.m.. The Mountain Hawks have won two of their last three games, the only loss coming against #6 nationally-ranked Penn State.

Lehigh pulls out 3-2 win over Georgetown
The Lehigh field hockey team jumped out to an early lead and held off a Georgetown comeback attempt for a 3-2 win over the Hoyas on Sunday afternoon. Senior Kim Eng and junior Emily Torcivia scored in the game’s first 7:15, sophomore Lindsay Metzger added a second-half tally and sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson made six saves for her first win of the season.

Mountain Hawks fall to #6 Penn State
The Lehigh field hockey team generated six shots on goal and six penalty corners, but couldn’t convert as the Mountain Hawks dropped an 8-0 final to #6 Penn State on Friday evening. The combination of freshman Sophie Fitzpatrick and sophomore Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson combined for 11 saves while Lehigh added four defensive saves, including two from junior Marie Mignogna who played a strong all-around game.

Lehigh plays a pair this weekend, beginning with #6 Penn State Friday
Coming off its first win of the season the Lehigh field hockey team will host #6 Penn State Friday night at 6 p.m. before heading south to face Georgetown Sunday (4 p.m.). After a series of hard-fought losses, the Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead and looked dominant throughout their 6-3 win over Towson on Sunday.

Metzger named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week
Lehigh field hockey sophomore Lindsay Metzger was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring four goals over two games. On Sunday, Metzger scored three goals on her 20th birthday to lead Lehigh past Towson, 6-3. The Mountain Top, Pa. native also scored a goal on Friday at Fairfield and now leads the Patriot League with five goals on the season.

Lehigh doubles up Towson for first win, 6-3
Sophomore Lindsay Metzger scored a hat trick on her 20th birthday to lead an offense which netted its most goals since 2004 as the Lehigh field hockey team topped Towson, 6-3, on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks opened a 4-0 lead less than 29 minutes into the game and wouldn’t look back. Junior Caitlyn Mitchell, freshman Erin Ricker and senior Kim Eng also added goals in the victory.

Mountain Hawks fall at Fairfield, 4-2
Despite a strong effort down the stretch, the Lehigh field hockey team couldn’t come back from a 2-0 deficit, falling to Fairfield, 4-2 on Friday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks got goals from freshman Alex Beatson (her second in as many games) and sophomore Lindsay Metzger along with a career-high 16 saves from sophomore goalie Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson, but it wasn’t enough. Lehigh will return home on Sunday to host Towson at 12 p.m.

Mountain Hawks head to Fairfield Friday, host Towson Sunday
Coming off a pair of competitive games last weekend, the Lehigh field hockey team will travel to Fairfield on Friday (4 p.m.) before hosting Towson Sunday (12 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks have been within a single goal with less than 12 minutes remaining of all four games thus far, but have been unable to get over the hump. The team has seen its bright spots, with a never-say-die attitude leading to numerous comebacks, which have fallen just short.

Lehigh falls to Saint Francis (Pa.), 4-2
Down 2-0, the Lehigh field hockey team nearly mounted a comeback, but couldn’t net the equalizer as Saint Francis hung on for a 4-2 win on Sunday. The Mountain Hawks got goals from senior Kim Eng and freshman Alex Beatson (her first-career goal), but it wasn’t enough. Lehigh returns to action on Friday when it travels to Fairfield to face the Stags.

The Lehigh field hockey team fought back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the score, but gave up three late tallies in a 5-2 defeat to Penn on Friday evening. Senior Kim Eng and sophomore Lindsay Metzger scored for the Mountain Hawks while sophomore Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson made a career-high 14 saves in the defeat. Lehigh will look to bounce back on Sunday when it hosts Saint Francis (Pa.) at 3 p.m.

Lehigh heads to Penn, hosts Saint Francis (Pa.) in busy weekend
Looking to bounce back from a pair of one-goal losses, the Lehigh field hockey team eyes its first win when it travels to Penn on Friday (7 p.m.) before hosting Saint Francis on Sunday (3 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to Ball State and 1-0 defeat to Liberty in a pair of tight contests. Lehigh is looking for its first-ever win at Penn after beating the Quakers for the first time in program history last season.

Lehigh drops 1-0 final to Liberty
The Lehigh field hockey team bounced back from its season opening loss with a strong effort, but was unable to beat Liberty goalie Brooke Morley in 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. It marked the Mountain Hawks’ second straight one goal defeat to start the season. Lehigh sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson nearly matched Morley save-for-save, making nine stops in the defeat.

Mountain Hawks drop 4-3 overtime heartbreaker to Ball State
The Lehigh field hockey team fought back from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead, but Ball State responded with the equalizer in regulation and game-winner in overtime to spoil the Mountain Hawks’ season opener. A pair of freshmen scored Lehigh’s first two goals of the season while senior Kim Eng finished with a goal and two assists to lead the offense.

Mountain Hawks host Ball State and Liberty to open season
The Lehigh field hockey team opens its season in a big way this weekend, hosting Ball State on Saturday (noon) and Liberty on Sunday (1 p.m.). The Mountain Hawks are coming off a strong finish to last season, posting a 3-2 league mark to earn the #3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh won four of its final six regular season games to gain momentum heading into 2012.

Lehigh Athletics season, fall broadcast schedule to begin Friday
With the fall season set to get underway on Friday, Lehigh Athletics has announced its fall broadcast schedule. For the third straight year Lehigh has partnered with Stretch Internet to deliver fans live action via the Lehigh GameCentral portal. Most men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball home contests will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site as part of the GameCentral pay-per-view offering.
