Meet the baseball class of 2016
Lehigh head baseball coach Sean Leary introduced the team’s incoming class of 2016 on November 28. In total, nine student-athletes from a variety of states entered Lehigh this fall, looking to help replace an impressive senior class which included local products Cory Kent and Brendan McGaheran, among others. This class features many top recruits including state champions, prospects identified by Perfect Game and also a few local stars as well.

McBride called-up to Rockies, will be in Philadelphia this weekend
The dream continues for Lehigh alumnus and standout baseball star Matt McBride, as he has been called back up to the Colorado Rockies this morning and will be with the team in Atlanta today. McBride was called-up earlier in the season and made his Major League debut on Aug. 4 against the San Francisco Giants after an impressive stint at the Triple-A level. McBride will get a chance to return to his old stomping grounds, but this time on a Major League roster when the Rockies come to Philadelphia

Leary announces changes to coaching staff
The Lehigh baseball team has introduced John Fugett in a full-time role and Lee Saverio as the newest addition to head coach Sean Leary’s staff. Fugett will be promoted after previously spending time on Leary’s staff, while Saverio has completed stints as a high school and collegiate head coach as well as a professional scout.

McBride called up to Rockies, will make MLB debut Saturday night
After six years, Matt McBride finally received the call. The former Lehigh standout was promoted to the Colorado Rockies from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday. McBride will make his major league debut, batting seventh and playing first base Saturday night when the Rockies host the San Francisco Giants Saturday at 8:10 p.m. (ET).

Turner and Brong highlight Lehigh players in summer leagues
Lehigh baseball’s Casey Turner and Tyler Brong have highlighted the group of Mountain Hawks playing in summer leagues around the country. Turner was selected as an All-Star for the Vienna River Dogs in the Cal Ripkin League while Brong has been the leading hitter for the Quakertown Blazers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.

McBride to play in Triple-A All-Star Game Wednesday
Former Lehigh baseball standout Matt McBride will play in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game takes place in Buffalo, N.Y. and will be televised on the MLB Network. The Bethlehem, Pa. native earned a spot on the Pacific Coast League team after having a breakout first half of the season for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of the Rockies.

Lehigh lands 10 on baseball Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
The Lehigh baseball team placed 10 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced on Tuesday. Senior Ryan Gajdos - a psychology major - led the team with a 3.76 GPA and was one of five Mountain Hawks to have at least a 3.60 GPA, which qualified them for Lehigh’s Dean’s List as well.

Vote McBride into the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game
Former Lehigh baseball standout Matt McBride is having a stellar season for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. And now the fans have a chance to vote McBride into the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game, which will take place in Buffalo on July 11, televised on the MLB Network. Voting ends at 11:59 PM EDT on Friday, June 22.

Kent named to Academic All-Patriot League Team
Lehigh baseball senior Cory Kent was named to the 10-member Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league Wednesday. Kent – a Second Team All-Patriot League selection this season – had a standout 2012 campaign on the mound for Lehigh while also excelling in the classroom as the Wilson , Pa. native earned his second consecutive Academic All-league honor.

Five Mountain Hawks named to Second Team All-Patriot League
Following a solid 2012 season, Lehigh baseball seniors Cory Kent, Chad Warga and Brendan McGaheran along with sophomores Joe Abeln and Tyler Brong have been selected to the All-Patriot League Second Team, as announced by the league Tuesday. It is Kent’s and McGaheran’s second-career appearance on the All-League Team while Warga, Abeln and Brong earn all-league honors for the first time.

Lehigh drops doubleheader Sunday at Navy
The Lehigh baseball team dropped a pair of games Sunday at Navy, 5-1 and 2-1 in the Mountain Hawks’ final two regular season games. Sophomore Mike Burke had a stellar outing in game two as he threw a career-high 6.1 innings and allowed just two runs on five hits. The Mountain Hawks finish their season 18-31-1 and 6-14 in Patriot League play.

The Lehigh baseball team kept its postseason hopes alive Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader vs. Navy. The Mountain Hawks took game one 4-1 before winning 3-2 in the second game. Lehigh pitchers had a stellar day while Conor Faust was 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs. The schools will play another doubleheader Sunday starting at noon and Lehigh will have to win both to earn a Patriot League Tournament berth.

Wednesday’s baseball game vs. Franklin & Marshall cancelled
The Lehigh baseball game Wednesday vs. Franklin & Marshall has been cancelled. There will not be a makeup date. Lehigh will return to action this weekend with its final regular-season series at Navy. Lehigh drops both games Saturday to Holy Cross
The Lehigh baseball team dropped the final two games of the series to Holy Cross Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks fell 3-1 in game one and 16-5 in game two. Lehigh brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh in game one but fell short while the Mountain Hawks produced 13 hits in game two. It was also senior day as Lehigh’s seven seniors were honored before the doubleheader.

The Lehigh baseball team split a doubleheader with Holy Cross Friday on Goodman Campus. Lehigh won game one 4-1 before dropping game two 11-7. Josh Flyer (2-0) earned the win while Rene Tato collected his first career save as the duo combined to strike out 11 in 8.0 IP, each going 4.0. Senior Brendan McGaheran played in his 178th career game Tuesday, tying the school games played record set by Jesse Novalis ’04.

The Lehigh baseball team (14-26-1, 3-9 PL) dropped a pair of games at Bucknell (19-19, 6-6 PL) Sunday, as the Mountain Hawks dropped three of four over the weekend to the Bison. Lehigh fell 6-0 in game one before a back-and-forth game two. Down to its last out, Lehigh managed to tie the game thanks to a two-run single by senior Ryan Gajdos, but Lehigh lost 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth.

The Lehigh baseball team took the first two of the four-game series vs. rival Lafayette Saturday, winning 3-1 and then 10-2. The Lehigh baseball team will look to ride the momentum from its extra-inning victory Sunday as Lehigh hosts Delaware Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the first game of the Liberty Bell Classic. Lehigh has had great success in the Classic, appearing in five finals with its lone Championship coming in 2004. The Lehigh baseball team dropped the first two of a four-game set to Iona Saturday in Lehigh’s home opener. Lehigh squandered a lead late in both games, falling 6-4 and then 7-3. Senior Cory Kent started the day going the distance in a seven-inning game, allowing three earned runs and striking out six while freshman Nick Stevens went 6.1 IP in game two, allowing two earned runs and four hits.

The Lehigh baseball team will look to keep its hot bats going this weekend when the Mountain Hawks return to Goodman Campus for their home opener. Lehigh will host Iona for a four-game set with double headers slated for noon and 2:30 Saturday and Sunday. Darkness leaves Lehigh-Delaware State tied in extras
The Lehigh baseball team jumped out to a 6-0 lead but that was soon erased. Lehigh retook the lead but Delaware State again tied it up. The two went back and forth until the eighth when Lehigh took a one-run lead but Delaware State tied the game with two outs in the ninth. The teams played two innings to try to settle things before the game was called tied at 11-11 due to darkness Wednesday.

Lehigh’s bats explode in 14-4 win over Coppin State
The Lehigh baseball team snapped its 10-game skid with a dominating 14-4 win at Coppin State Tuesday. The offense exploded for 14 hits while all of Lehigh’s runs came in a six-inning span. Four Lehigh players had multi-hit games including Chad Warga, who was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Joey McNamara earned his first career win, pitching 3.2 shutout relief innings with seven strikeouts.

The Lehigh baseball team dropped two games Friday at Santa Clara, part of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament. Lehigh first fell 11-3 to Utah and then 5-3 to Santa Clara after Lehigh held a 3-2 lead in the eighth. Cory Kent had a gutty performance, going 6.0 innings allowing two earned runs and striking out six while Chad Warga had the go-ahead RBI in the sixth but Lehigh wasn't able to hold on.

Lehigh travels to California for eight-game trip
The Lehigh baseball team’s 2012 schedule is highlighted by the program’s first-ever trip to California where Lehigh will play eight games over the course of a week against some stellar competition including a three-game set at No. 25 Cal which advanced to the second round of the 2011 College World Series. The Mountain Hawks will also take on San Jose State, Utah, Santa Clara and Columbia.

McBride gets first Major League Spring Training invite
Matt McBride, a 2006 second-round MLB Draft pick out of Lehigh, received a non-roster invite to the Colorado Rockies Spring Training Camp, his first-career big league invite. The Bethlehem, Pa. native spent the offseason locally, working out on Lehigh University's Goodman Campus and officially reported with the pitchers and catchers to Scottsdale, Ariz. for the Rockies’ first workout on Feb. 20.

Lehigh drops final game of weekend, 6-3 vs. FDU
The Lehigh baseball team (2-2) put together a two-out, bases-loaded rally in the ninth but came up empty as the Mountain Hawks fell to Fairleigh Dickinson 6-3 Sunday. Lehigh led 3-0 after the first two innings, but were unable to muster up anything in the later innings. Nick Stephens struck out seven in 5.1 innings while Alex Jacquez went 3-for-4 and Connor Faust and Ryan Gadjos each had an RBI.

Lehigh splits pair of games in North Carolina Saturday
The Lehigh baseball team (2-1) split a pair of games Saturday in N.C., defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 8-7 before falling to Davidson 9-1. Jordan Smith picked up the win relief while Cory Kent earned his second save of the season. Lehigh was paced on offense in the two games by Ryan Gajdos and Justin Pacchioli whom combined to go 7-for-13 with three RBIs, four runs scored and five stolen bases.

Lehigh wins season opener 3-1 vs. Davidson
The Lehigh baseball team used a two-run first to propel itself to a 3-1 season-opening win at Davidson Friday. Nick Cassell earned the victory as a trio of pitchers allowed four hits and no earned runs. Cory Kent picked up the six-out save, striking out five over the final two innings while eight different Mountain Hawks had at least one hit including clutch ones from Joe Conaway and Ryan Gajdos.

Lehigh baseball begins 2012 season this weekend
The Lehigh baseball team is set to kick off its 2012 season this weekend with a four-game set in North Carolina with two games vs. Davidson and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Mountain Hawks graduated a veteran group but the players stepping up in those spots this year aren’t new to the system, just taking on bigger roles. The 2012 Mountain Hawks will be built around defense, speed and its bullpen.

Patriot League announces 2012 baseball preseason poll
With the 2012 baseball season right around the corner, the Patriot League released Wednesday its preseason poll, which is voted on by the league’s sports information directors and coaches. The Mountain Hawks were picked to finish sixth, garnering 16 points. Lehigh will begin its 2012 slate on Feb. 24 in Davidson, N.C. and will make its 2012 home debut on March 17-18 with a four-game set vs. Iona.

Lehigh hosting alumni NYC event February 16
The baseball season is just around the corner. A week before Lehigh kicks off its 2012 season at Davidson, Lehigh will be hosting its 2012 alumni event at Lucky Strikes Bowling Alley in Manhattan on February 16 from 7-10 p.m. The event will be hosted again by former Major League pitcher and Lehigh Athletics Hall of Fame member Paul Hartzell.
