The drive had extra significance for someone else from the Lehigh Athletics' family as Marilyn Hyncik, mother of former men's basketball captain Adam, is in need of a bone marrow transplant. McCollum declared for the draft on March 27, but did not hire an agent which allowed him to gather information and feedback from NBA executives before making a final decision prior to the first day of the spring National Letter of Intent period.
