Track and field teams head to Navy for Patriot League Championships this weekend
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a successful regular season, the Lehigh track and field teams will make a trip to Annapolis, Md. beginning on Friday for the 2011 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Mountain Hawks have high expectations after accomplishing several great feats this season.
“The winter has gone exceptionally well for us,” said Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch. “We are excited for a number of people on our roster. We really had a lot of events covered in the qualifying and that’s really setting us up well for the Patriot League Championships.”

Utesch has high expectations for both teams in this weekend’s competitive field.
“On the men’s side we are looking to finish in top half, potentially third,” he said. “Just the way we beat Lafayette earlier in the season shows that our team is ready to compete.”
“For the women, our hope is to finish second,” said Utesch. “We are probably sitting third right now, but our women are going to go hard and battle for some hardware.”
At last year’s championships, Bucknell finished first on the women’s side with a total of 168 points, while Army won on the men’s side as it finished with 165 points. The women ended up with 92 points and missed out on second place by four points. The men collected 33 of their 41 points on the final day to make a late push up the standings. Lehigh’s Khalil Uqdah, the Field Athlete of the Meet, set a new Patriot League Championship indoor record in the pole vault with a vault of 17’ 3.5”.
Friday will kick off with the men’s heptathlon at noon and will finish up on Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m. The Women’s pentathlon will begin on Friday at 12:15 p.m. Running events are slated to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday as well. The Field events will begin at 10:30 am on Saturday morning and finish on Sunday. Check the official Patriot League Championship page for the full schedule and all the latest results.
