Steelhawks Sign Top Quarterback and Host “Salute to Heroes” Night
Posted: 05/15/2012
The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are excited to announce the signing of a new quarterback, Chris Malleo to the flock. Malleo was the starting quarterback of a Reading Express team last year that went 8-6 and was the Atlantic Division Champions.
In his rookie season, Malleo led the Express to an 8-6 record and a first round playoff win. He brings a dual threat to the Steelhawk offense; he is equally as dangerous with his legs as he is with his arm. His passing stats from last year include 32 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions with a 54% completion. Where Malleo sets himself apart from other quarterbacks is in his abilities on the ground. He was the IFL’s top rushing quarterback, and had the 6th most rushing yards overall with 554 yards. He also tallied 14 rushing touchdowns. He was runner up for the IFL’s Rookie of the Year for his efforts last season.
Malleo has spent this year in various AFL camps and spending time training and working out for many different NFL teams and scouts. He was most recently with ex-Steelhawk quarterback Bryan Randall of the Pittsburgh Power and spent time with the Georgia Force prior to coming to the Valley.
Head Coach Chris Thompson had the opportunity to coach Malleo last year in Reading, “I am extremely excited to be re-united with Chris and continue working with him again. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off last season and try to help us make another playoff run here with the Steelhawks these last 4 weeks of the regular season. Chris is a great leader and a true professional with great IFL experience and I think he will fit in very well with the rest of the guys that we have here.”
The Steelhawks now gear up for their May 19th SALUTE TO HEROES NIGHT, presented by Cohen & Feeley Attorneys at Law. The day of the game, the doors to Stabler Arena will open at 5:30pm for a special Silent auction with items ranging from gift cards to autographed sports memorabilia with ALL proceeds going to Charity to benefit local military families. The first 1,500 fans through the door will receive a free Steelhawks/Cohen & Feeley drawstring bag.
