Rebels Brings Home the IM Soccer Championship for a 2nd Year in a Row!
The 2010 Intramural Soccer season came to an end on Friday, September 24th in dynamic fashion. The women’s division fielded 11 teams in 2 divisions, all looking to become the first IM champs of the year. But it would be the top two teams from each league, meeting in the final to bring home the shirt and bragging rights of champion! The Rebels, defending 2009 champs, took on the ladies of Alpha Phi. Play started off with a whirl win of hustle and shots on goal, but with only minutes left in the half, the Rebels scored off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead after the first half. But Alpha Phi was not about to let that goal defeat their attitude! As the 2nd half got underway, both teams continued to play hard but with 8 minutes left, the Alpha Phi’s came back strong and answered the call. Katie Wiederhold took the ball and with her fancy footwork, she danced and weaved her way down the field, dodging the attempts of the Rebels and scored a critical goal to tie the game. That score held until time ran out, ending the game. Both teams retreated to the sideline for a quick breather and discuss strategy. After all, this was for the marbles, the traditional IM Champion T-shirt and a big chunk of Trophy Points!! Ties are determined by penalty kicks and the Rebels were not going to be denied. Each team was awarded 4 alternating strikes, with the Rebels coming out the big winners, beating the Alpha Phi’s by a score of 3-1. Great Job ladies and keep up the good work!!!
