Lehigh launches GameCentral portal for on-line broadcasts

Posted: 08/23/2010
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the fall season just a week away, Lehigh Athletics has announced a new partnership with Stretch Internet to deliver fans live action like never before via the new Lehigh GameCentral portal. Most men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball home games will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site as part of the GameCentral pay-per-view offering. The GameCentral interface will also feature the Lehigh radio broadcast of every football game, and live streaming video for eight of the Mountain Hawks’ 11 games. An industry leader in on-line broadcasts, Lehigh Athletics will make available over 200 events on its web site in 2010-11.

“GameCentral is an entirely new experience, and we’re excited to partner with Stretch to bring it to Lehigh fans across the nation and around the world,” said Jeff Tourial, Lehigh’s Director of Broadcasting & Multimedia. “The Flash video streams are much higher quality than we’ve had in the past, and the integrated portal offers several new features for our fans to interact with one another and our broadcasters while they watch the games.”

In addition to streaming audio and streaming video via Flash, the GameCentral portal also features access to Live Stats during most home games – even when there’s no broadcast available. Additionally, registered users will also have the ability to talk about the game as it happens with the new Live Chat function embedded in the portal.

Also new for Lehigh fans with GameCentral is the ability to access live broadcasts on the go. The portal is not only compatible with desktop Macs and PCs, it offers the ability to watch or listen to games live on mobile devices. Currently, the GameCentral interface supports iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad access, and plans call for availability on Android devices later this year.

All broadcasts on-line are aired live, and are available following the conclusion of the event on-demand for enjoyment at any time. Events are priced at $3.95 for a radio or audio broadcast, or $6.95 for a video or television broadcast.

For less than $5 per month, fans can enjoy all Lehigh streaming content both live and on-demand with the Season Pass. The Season Pass is priced at $59.95 for access from the sign-up date through June 30, 2011.

Once again, the Lehigh Sports Magazine – Lehigh’s weekly television show featuring highlights and interviews from coaches and student-athletes from all of the aforementioned sports will air throughout the fall each week. The Lehigh Sports Magazine premieres on Monday, August 30, and can be seen on-demand through the GameCentral portal at no charge (though free registration is required).

The 2010-11 Lehigh broadcast schedule gets underway on Sunday, August 29, when the field hockey team hosts Quinnipiac. Action gets underway at 1:00 pm.
