BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With four league championships to its credit, Lehigh posted its best Presidents’ Cup finish since 2001 as the league announced the final Presidents’ Cup standings on Wednesday. Navy captured its first Presidents’ Cup winning nine championships and accumulating 121.75 points. The Mids won the women’s trophy as well and became the first school other than Bucknell (17 titles) and Army (four) to win the Presidents’ Cup. Lehigh has never won the Presidents’ Cup, but did post its third runner-up finish and its first in 11 years.

On the men’s side Lehigh’s 58.25 points were .25 better than runner-up Navy, with Bucknell placing third at 54.25. Three of Lehigh’s four Patriot League championships came from men’s sports, one each in the fall, winter and spring; as football won its second straight title and league-leading tenth overall, men’s basketball won its second championship in the last three seasons and men’s lacrosse won its first ever tournament title.

In the women’s standings, Navy led the way with 63.75 points with Bucknell second at 54.25 and Lehigh third at 51.5. The softball team delivered Lehigh’s fourth championship, as the program won its 12th tournament title and seventh in the last nine years back on May 12. In addition, Lehigh teams reached the Patriot League semifinals in field hockey, volleyball and women’s basketball.

Presidents’ Cup points are based on a team’s performance in the regular season and postseason. Lehigh edged Bucknell by 1.25 points for second place, while Army finished fourth with 98.75 points. Colgate finished in fifth place, followed in order by Lafayette, American and Holy Cross.
