Lehigh Basketball to host Midnight Madness on Oct. 12
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - As they begin to prepare for their seasons, the Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball programs will host Midnight Madness next Friday (Oct. 12) at 10:45 p.m. in Grace Hall. It will serve as a tremendous opportunity for students and fans to meet and interact with the Lehigh basketball players up close and personal. There will be contests, music, giveaways and much more as the Mountain Hawks kick off 2012-13. The event is free of charge.
The Lehigh men’s team is coming off a historic season which saw it win a school-record 27 games, capped off by its historic 75-70 NCAA Tournament win over Duke. The Mountain Hawks defeated Bucknell in the Patriot League Championship Game to win their second league title in the last three years.
Lehigh will feature a strong core of returnees in 2012-13, led by a senior class of C.J. McCollum, Gabe Knutson and Holden Greiner, who’ve already combined for 3,788 career points. McCollum leads the way with 2,074 points which is already good for second in both school and Patriot League history. The Canton, Ohio native has already been named a preseason First Team All-American by Sporting News, joining Cody Zeller (Indiana), Doug McDermott (Creighton), James Michael McAdoo (North Carolina) and Deshaun Thomas (Ohio State) in the elite group.
The Lehigh women’s squad is coming off a 17-13 season while making its sixth straight Patriot League Semifinal appearance. The Mountain Hawks finished second in the league last season via a 9-5 record before defeating Bucknell in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
Lehigh has gone 111-48 over its last five seasons, highlighted by three 20-win seasons, two NCAA Tournament appearances and an NIT berth. The Mountain Hawks return three starters from last season’s squad - senior Kelly Peterson, sophomore Katie O’Reilly and junior Hilary Weaver - as the excitement around the program continues.
