Four Mountain Hawks named to Academic All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four student-athletes on the Lehigh men’s and women’s track and field teams were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league Friday. Senior Katherine Pierce and juniors Brittany Pietrosh and Lauren Pietrosh along with senior Kyle Forrest each earned Academic All-league honors.

Pierce was a Second Team All-Patriot League performer this season after placing second in the 10,000m run at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. Pierce is currently competing at the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J. this weekend where she hopes to earn All-East honors and solidify a spot in the NCAA Regionals which will take place May 25-26 in Jacksonville, Fla. Her school record time of 35:05.94 in the 10,000m run which she set earlier in the season at Stanford has her already on the cusp of qualifying.
                                    
Off the track, Pierce has a 3.57 GPA as an IDEAS Architecture major and Jewish Studies minor. Pierce won the 2012 Lehigh Distinguished Achievement Award this year, given to student-athletes at Lehigh who have displayed a high level of scholarship, significant athletic achievement at the league level and beyond and demonstrated service to the institution. Pierce was also named to the Academic All-League Team this year in cross country and indoor track and field. Pierce was named to the 2010 and 2011 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
 
Lauren Pietrosh was on the 4x800m relay team that finished third at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships and qualified for the ECAC Championships which she is competing in this weekend. Pietrosh also placed ninth in the 800m run at the Championships, setting a personal record of 2:14.08. Pietrosh was victorious in the 800m at the Lehigh games and placed third in the same event at the Greyhound Invitational.
 
Pietrosh has a 3.88 GPA and is majoring in Marketing. She is part of the Emerging Leaders at Lehigh and earned Dean’s List honors as well as the Faculty Athletics Council Award. Pietrosh was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in indoor track and field this year and was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll in 2010 and 2011.
 
Lauren’s sister – Brittany – was also on the 4x800m relay team that placed third at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. B. Pietrosh ran a personal best 2:16.14 in the 800m this season at the Bison Outdoor Classic and also ran a personal best 4:49.03 in the 1,500m run at the Lafayette 7 Way Invitational.
 
Forrest earns his third Academic All-League nod as the North Walpole, N.H. native has a 3.60 GPA, majoring in Accounting while Forrest was also a Second Team All-Patriot League performer this season.
 
Forrest placed second at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships in the decathlon with 6,531 points to qualify him for the ECAC Championships which Forrest is competing in this weekend in Princeton, N.J. Forrest threw a personal best 34.73m in the discus at the Championships while earlier in the season, he threw a personal best 44.55m in the javelin at the Winthrop Invitational. Forrest also set a personal record in the long jump at the Coach P Invitational at Moravian with a distance of 6.90m.
 
Off the track and field, Forrest earned a Faculty Athletics Council Award. He was also a two-time Patriot League Honor Roll member.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
