Lehigh runs past Robert Morris 89-60 for date with Pitt
The Lehigh men’s basketball team raced to an 15-point halftime lead and only extended it from there, downing Robert Morris 89-60 on Monday night in the NIT Season Tip-Off. With the win, the Mountain Hawks advance to Tuesday’s regional final vs. host Pittsburgh at 9 p.m. on ESPNU. Five Lehigh players scored in double figures while two others came within a point.

McCollum named Patriot League Player of the Week
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum has earned the first Patriot League Player of the Week honor of the season, as announced on Monday. The Canton, Ohio native is coming off a monster 36-piont game at #19/18 Baylor Friday. The honor extends McCollum’s already league mark to 13 career Player of the Week awards.

Patterson recognized as Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week
Lehigh freshman Courtney Patterson has been named the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week following her strong performance this weekend at Princeton’s Big Al Open. Patterson was Lehigh’s top finisher in four different events and picked up the lone event win for the Mountain Hawk women in two days of competition.

Lehigh faces Robert Morris Monday to begin NIT Season Tip-Off
Following a hard-fought game at #19/18 Baylor Friday, the Lehigh men’s basketball team quickly returns to action when it heads to Pittsburgh for the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Mountain Hawks face Robert Morris Monday (8:30 p.m.) and either Pittsburgh or Fordham Tuesday (6 or 9 p.m.) with a berth in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on the line. This marks the first time Lehigh has ever played in the NIT Season Tip-Off (formally Preseason NIT).

Lehigh finishes up at Big Al Open in New Jersey
The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up action at the Big Al Open Saturday at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool. Sophomore Danny Bennett led the Mountain Hawks in three individual events, while junior Chris Hoke and sophomore Sean Brant led the way for Lehigh in two events apiece as the Brown and White competed against Fordham, Georgetown, Princeton and TCNJ.

Patterson paces Lehigh Saturday at Big Al Open
Freshman Courtney Patterson won the women’s 200 yard freestyle and led Lehigh in three events as the Mountain Hawks wrapped-up action at the Big Al Invite Saturday at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool. Patterson won the 200 free in Saturday’s morning session and followed up with a second place finish in the 1650 free and a ninth place finish in the 200 fly in Saturday’s evening session.

Lehigh drops to Army, 3-1, in regular season finale
Despite a great effort by sophomore Kaylynn Genemaras, the Lehigh volleyball team dropped its regular season finale to the Army Black Knights, 3-1, on Saturday night. The Mountain Hawks played a tight match throughout, losing the first and third sets by a total of five points, but Army was able to finish off their sets for the victory.

Lehigh wraps up fall slate with strong showing at Frostbite Regatta
The Lehigh rowing team used a strong all-around effort at Saturday’s Frostbite Regatta as the Mountain Hawks garnered numerous medals in the final race of the fall season. The Varsity Eights had especially strong showings as the men placed second (6:27.45) and women fourth (7:32.34). In total, Lehigh had nine top-three finishes.

Colgate deals No. 5/8 Lehigh first loss with 35-24 comeback win
No. 5/8 Lehigh raced out to a ten point halftime advantage, but Colgate rallied to outscore the Mountain Hawks 21-0 in the second half as the Raiders captured the Patriot League championship and automatic berth into the FCS playoffs with a 35-24 win Saturday at Goodman Stadium. Raider quarterback Gavin McCarney rushed for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 9:14 to play as Colgate handed Lehigh its first loss of the season.

Mountain Hawks fall to No. 13/15 Cal, 80-48
Freshman Kerry Kinek shined in her debut as she recorded a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 11 rebounds in the Lehigh women’s basketball 80-48 season opener loss to No. 13/15 California on Friday night. The Mountain Hawks played particularly well in the second half, shooting 38.7 percent from the floor, while the Lehigh bench outscored Cal’s by seven in the final 20 minutes and forced three more turnovers.

Karedis, sprinters pace Lehigh on day one at Big Al Invite
Lehigh’s sprinters led the way as the Mountain Hawks returned to action with a solid first day at the Big Al Invite Friday at Princeton’s DeNunzio pool. Junior Demetri Karedis defended his title in the 50 yard freestyle, leading a contingent of four Mountain Hawks who finished in the top ten of the event.

The Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team returned to the pool Friday night with the opening session of the Big Al Invite at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool. The Mountain Hawks competed in four events, taking on Georgetown, Fordham, TCNJ and the host Tigers in their first competition since losing at Colgate on October 27.

Lehigh earns PLT berth with 3-1 win over Holy Cross
The Lehigh volleyball team earned its second Patriot League Tournament berth under head coach Bob Bertucci on Friday night after a 3-1 victory over the Crusaders. The Mountain Hawks rallied after dropping the first set to rattle off three-consecutive wins, capped by a kill from sophomore southpaw Kaylynn Genemaras.

Mountain Hawks drop 99-77 final at #19/18 Baylor
The Lehigh men’s basketball team battled hard, but couldn’t overcome a big and athletic Baylor squad as the Bears pulled away for a 99-77 win in the season opener for both teams Friday. Senior C.J. McCollum scored 36 points, just six shy of his career high, while junior Mackey McKnight added 14 points and six assists. The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back on Monday when they travel to Pittsburgh for the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Lehigh takes eighth at Mid-Atlantic Regionals
Two weeks after winning the Patriot League Championships, the Lehigh men’s cross country team finished eighth out of 25 teams at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in University Park, Pa. The Mountain Hawks combined to score 254 points as sophomore Ryan Mahalsky finished as the top performer for the first time this season in 45th (31:31) in the 10K race.

Lehigh men finish eighth, while women take 15th at Mid-Atlantic Qualifiers
Competing against an immensely talent field of competition, the Lehigh men’s and women’s cross country teams took home eighth and 15th, respectively, at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Qualifiers in University Park, Pa. The top finishers for the Mountain Hawks on the day were sophomore Ryan Mahalsky (31:31) in 45th and senior Julia Perry (22:14) in 62nd.

Softball sophomores step up in wake of Superstorm Sandy
The effects of Hurricane Sandy had an effect on many people in the northeast, specifically in the state of New Jersey. A number of people lost property or had property damaged by the storm. At Lehigh, some students returned home after a week of classes were cancelled. Others simply waited out the storm. For the sophomores on the softball team, the storm provided an opportunity to help those in need along the Jersey shore.

Mountain Hawks finish 15th at Mid-Atlantic Regionals
The Lehigh women’s cross country team finished 15th out of 31 competing squads at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals in University Park, Pa. The Mountain Hawks recorded a combined score of 457 points, finishing just six points behind Loyola (Md.). Senior Julia Perry was Lehigh’s top performing runner, taking 62nd after crossing the line in 22:14 on the 6K course.

McCollum named to Wooden Award preseason top 50
Lehigh senior guard C.J. McCollum continues to rack in the honors as on Thursday, he was named to the Wooden Award preseason top 50. McCollum was the only Patriot League player named to the award’s watch list for the ultimate honor of national player of the year. The Canton, Ohio native was also named a First Team All-American by ESPN, his third First Team All-America honor (Associated Press and Sporting News).

Bishop signs professional contract with Harrisburg Heat
Former Lehigh men’s soccer standout goalkeeper Sam Bishop (2005) has signed a professional contract to play for the Harrisburg Heat of the Professional Arena Soccer League. Bishop had previously played professionally for the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and was part of the Islanders team that won the USL-2 championship.
