Mountain Hawks take part in Bethlehem Halloween Parade
The Lehigh men’s basketball team took time out of its busy preseason schedule to take part in the Bethlehem Halloween Parade on Sunday. The parade was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but was postponed due to Hurricane Sandy. The Mountain Hawks were Grand Marshals, heading the parade as thousands of local residents lined the streets.

Hamlin downs Steinhaus 5-3 at NWCA All-Star Classic
Lehigh senior Robert Hamlin unofficially opened his 2012-13 season with a 5-3 win over Kevin Steinhaus of Minnesota at 184 pounds in the 47th Annual NWCA All-Star Classic Saturday night at American University’s Bender Arena. Hamlin, a two-time EIWA Champion and All-American was the first Lehigh wrestler to compete at the All-Star Classic since 2004.

Lehigh plays to draw in double overtime thriller with Army
After twice erasing one-goal deficits, the Lehigh men’s soccer team ended its 2012 campaign with a 2-2 draw against the Black Knights. The resilient Mountain Hawks battled back all night as freshman Ben Davis was the first to score on a header in the 48th minute to knot the score at one, and after an Army goal, junior Ben Wysocki found the back of the net for a dramatic equalizer in the 87th minute, but Lehigh could not find the back of the net a third time for the win.

No. 6/8 Lehigh outlasts Holy Cross 36-35 to set up title showdown
The Lehigh football team has made a habit of winning exciting, back-and-forth games in 2012 and Saturday at Holy Cross was no different. The No. 6/8 Mountain Hawks trailed by 12 points after three quarters but rallied to defeat the Crusaders 36-35 at Fitton Field. Senior Ryan Spadola returned to the Lehigh lineup with two touchdown catches, including the go-ahead score with two minutes to play.

Mountain Hawks bounce back with impressive sweep of Navy
After dropping to American a night ago, the Lehigh volleyball team rebounded with a straight-set sweep of the Midshipmen on Saturday afternoon. With two 25-21 set wins giving them a 2-0 advantage in the match, the Mountain Hawks won a dramatic 27-25 set three for the match victory. Senior Taylor Poole led the Mountain Hawks with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage in one of the most important matches of the season.

Big second half leads Navy past Lehigh in Patriot League Semis, 4-1
The Lehigh women’s soccer team pulled even late in the first half, but Navy’s Paloma Perez came alive with a natural hat trick in the second to down the Mountain Hawks, 4-1, in the Patriot League Semifinals on Friday evening. Junior Murphee Greeley netted the game-tying goal, but #4 Lehigh couldn’t contain top seed and host Navy, who extended its unbeaten streak to 20 games and will face Colgate in Sunday’s Patriot League Championship Game.

Mountain Hawks fall to American in straight sets
The Lehigh volleyball team dropped to American on Friday night in straight sets despite an outstanding performance by freshman Stephanie Slater in her first collegiate match. Slater finished the game with seven kills, while sophomore southpaw Kaylynn Genemaras led the team with 11 kills and a .304 hitting percentage. The Mountain Hawks will now await Navy tomorrow afternoon in another crucial Patriot League tilt.

Lehigh field hockey’s First Annual Fox Trot 5K a big success
Senior Kelsey Zeswitz and the Lehigh field hockey team organized the First Annual Fox Trot 5K for Parkinson’s Research on Sunday as more than one hundred people took part in the event. The 5K was organized with Kelsey’s mother Chrissie in mind, who was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s two summers ago. In total, the event raised over $12,000 (over $6,000 which was then matched by the co-founder of Google).

Lehigh to conclude regular season with crucial match at Army
After falling to American in a hard-fought, heartbreaking match last Saturday night, the Lehigh men’s soccer team will travel to West Point, N.Y. for its regular season finale against the Black Knights of Army. The Mountain Hawks will need to win and receive help from opponents in order to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.

Lehigh heads to Navy for Patriot League Semifinals on Friday
The Lehigh women’s soccer team begins its “second season” on Friday when it travels to Navy to face the top-seeded Midshipmen in the Patriot League Semifinals. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. following the first semifinal of the day (#3 American vs. #2 Colgate) at 3 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are riding three straight wins to advance to their second Patriot League Tournament in the last three years.

Volleyball changes times for weekend matches
Due to the damaging effects of Hurricane Sandy, game times have shifted for this weekend’s volleyball matches. Lehigh will now play American at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by Lafayette and Navy at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Lehigh will now host Navy at 1 p.m. All three games will be played at Leeman-Turner Arena inside Grace Hall.

Dustman garners Academic All-Patriot League laurels
Lehigh sophomore midfielder Darby Dustman has earned Academic All-Patriot League honors, as announced by the league on Thursday. Dustman owns a strong 3.81 GPA as an Industrial Engineering major while on the field, she stands tied for third on the Mountain Hawks in goals (3) and tied for fourth in points (6).

Elliott and Greeley earn All-Patriot League honors
Lehigh women’s soccer freshman Paige Elliott earned First Team All-Patriot League honors while junior Murphee Greeley garnered Second Team laurels, as announced by the league on Thursday. Both winners of Patriot League weekly awards on Monday, Elliott has been stellar at both ends of the field, posting two goals and two assists along with stellar defense, while Greeley leads the team with five goals and 12 points on the season.

Eng and Metzger earn All-Patriot League honors
Lehigh forwards Kim Eng and Lindsay Metzger have garnered All-Patriot League laurels, as announced on Thursday. Eng earned a spot on the First Team for the third time in her career while Metzger captured Second Team honors. Both among the league leaders in goals and points, Eng finished 2012 with 22 points (eight goals, six assists) while Metzger posted 17 (eight goals, one assist). The duo combined for more than half of Lehigh’s goals on the season.

Off a crucial straight-set victory over the rival Leopards to begin a five-game stretch of Patriot League action, the Lehigh volleyball team continues with a weekend twin bill against American and Navy. Games two and three of the five-match streak will take place inside Leeman-Turner Arena when the Eagles and Mids travel to Bethlehem this weekend as Lehigh, currently the four-seed in the Patriot League standings, will continue to fight for a tournament spot.

Knutson and McCollum named Senior CLASS Candidates
Lehigh men’s basketball seniors Gabe Knutson and C.J. McCollum have been named candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, as announced on Wednesday. Lehigh is the only men’s basketball program to have multiple players among the candidate list of 30. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Back to work after bye, No. 6/8 Lehigh visits Holy Cross
Fresh off its bye week, No. 6/8 Lehigh heads to Worcester, Massachusetts to face the Holy Cross Crusaders Saturday at Fitton Field. Prior to the bye the Mountain Hawks capitalized on four blocked kicks to defeat Bucknell 42-19 on October 20 to move to 8-0 on the season. The lone undefeated team in the FCS, Lehigh has won its last 17 regular season games overall and its last 17 games against Patriot League opponents.
