WORCESTER, Mass. – Lehigh allowed two second half goals, as it lost its second conference game of the season Saturday afternoon, falling to Holy Cross 2-1 in Worcester, Mass. The Brown and White fall to 5-4-2 (1-2) on the season, while the Crusaders improve their record to 5-4-2 (1-0-2). Junior midfielder Andreas Andrews put home the game winner for the Crusaders in the 63rd minute.
Lehigh got on the board first when Matt McNeil fed Jim Taranto with a pass, and Taranto put it by crusaders goalkeeper Thomas Booth for the early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. It was the third goal of the season for Taranto while McNeil picked up his first assist of the year.
The Mountain Hawks went into the half with the lead and the only shot of the half for either team was the Taranto goal.
At the start of the second half, Holy Cross would not wait around to add the equalizer as Alejandro Melean put home an unassisted goal in the 49th minute. It was the second goal of the season for the junior defender.
The Crusaders would put in the game winner at 63:29, when Chidie Okpoebo found Andrews for his team leading fourth goal and second game winning goal of the season.
The Mountain Hawks would fight back hard, adding two shots in the second half but could not find the net on either shot as they picked up their fourth loss of the year.
Lehigh is back in action next Saturday when it travels to Washington, D.C. for another Patriot League clash, this time with the American Eagles. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. from Reeves Field.
