WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lehigh got its 2007-08 season underway on Sunday afternoon at the Head of the Potomac in the open-eight race and both the Mountain Hawk women and men put forth impressive showings as the women finished third out of five boats, and the Lehigh men took fourth place in the seven-boat race. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the effort and results of today’s races,” Lehigh Head Rowing Coach Liz Meltzer said afterwards. “This gives us a good gauge of where our teams are at and also shows us what we can accomplish against teams that we will see later this season at The Head of the Charles.”
Lehigh’s women finished in a time of 17:01.42, which was 4.75-percent off the winning time of 16:15.11, by Georgetown’s A boat. Thompson Boat Center placed second, followed by the Mountain Hawks, Maryland and Georgetown B.
In the men’s race, the Mountain Hawks were 5.16-percent off of the winning time, posted by Georgetown, which finished in a time of 14:13.97. The Hoyas were followed by Potomac Boat Club A (14:33.35), Potomac Boat Club B (14:37.82), Lehigh (14:58.27), George Washington Rowing Association (15:21.46), Maryland A (15:35.8) and Maryland B (15:59.87)
Lehigh returns to the water on October 13 when the Mountain Hawks head to Philadelphia to compete in the Navy Day Regatta.
