Mountain Hawks open fall play at Cornell Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lehigh men’s tennis team opened its fall season this weekend at the Cornell Fall Invitational. Nine Mountain Hawks saw their first action of the season, including the five Lehigh newcomers, who got their first taste of Division I tennis. Senior captain John Nespoli led the way, recording the only Lehigh win in the championship bracket in singles play.

 

Nespoli and freshman Troy List played flight A singles for the Mountain Hawks. In the first round, Nespoli won in three sets over Diego Valdenegro of St. Bonaventure, before losing to Cornell’s Kyle Doppelt 6-4, 6-4 in round two.

 

List dropped his opening match to Leo Mochizuki of St. Bonaventure, but came back to win a pair of matches in the consolations, before losing to Chris Meyer of UMBC in the consolation final. In flight A doubles play, Nespoli and List teamed to go 0-1.

 

Junior Jon-Michael Caminiti and sophomore Robert Bolcar represented Lehigh at B singles, with Bolcar picking up a win in the consolations. Twin brother John Bolcar played at C singles with freshman Arnaldo Pacheco. John Bolcar picked up a win in three matches, while Pacheco went 0-2. In doubles play, the Bolcar brothers teamed for a 9-7 win over a duo from UMBC in round one at A doubles, before falling to a team from Cornell in round two.

 

Senior Brent Herbert, junior Mike Gordon and freshman Cameron Silbert represented the Brown and White at flight D singles.
