Mountain Hawks open fall season at Cornell Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team opened its fall season this past weekend at the Cornell Fall Invitational at Cornell’s Reis Tennis Center. Junior Allie Schwartz had the top performance, winning two matches to reach the consolation finals at flight B singles to lead the contingent of six Mountain Hawks who saw action over the weekend.

 

Schwartz dropped her opening match to Dana Cruite of Cornell 6-1, 6-1, but bounced back through the consolations, defeating Kristin Beehler of Army 8-4 and Emma Cunningham of Niagara 8-6. In the consolation final Schwartz fell to Shayna Miller of Cornell 8-6.

 

In other Lehigh action, senior Alexis Jacobi and sophomore Julie Arthofer both went 0-2 playing at flight A singles. Jacobi and Schwartz also teamed up at A doubles, falling to Sinziana Chis and Dana Cruite of Cornell 8-0.

 

Juniors Ruthie Furman joined Schwartz at flight B singles and went 0-2, while junior Victoria Vityuk and freshman Kiera Murasko-Blank represented the Brown and White at C singles.

 

The Mountain Hawks will continue the fall tennis season next weekend at the ITA Eastern Championships, which begin Friday at Army.
