Lehigh drops first match of IPFW Tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind.- The Lehigh volleyball team played their first match of the IPFW Tournament on Friday and lost to Chicago State by a score of 3-0. The game scores were 30-28, 30-18 and 30-28. The loss drops the Mountain Hawks record to 1-6, while Chicago State picks up their first win of the season to improve their record to 1-8.
Senior Shannon Spafford led the team with nine kills and a .333 attack percentage. Brittany Thurston, Brittany Dickinson and Mo McReynolds all recorded a team high nine digs in the match. Lehigh had a match high nine services aces however, they committed 23 attack errors and allowed to Cougars to stay in the game.
Christie Eberhardt led the Cougars with a double-double, recording 12 kills and eleven digs. Chicago State had ten blocks as a team and .209 for the match, including .333 in the second game. The Cougars also had a match high 53 digs and 39 assists.
Lehigh returns to action tomorrow in the second day of the IPFW Tournament. They will play Lipscomb at 12:30 and then host IPFW at 7 p.m.
