Cross country teams sweep Lehigh Valley meet

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Lehigh men’s and women’s cross country team hosted their first race of the season, with the Lehigh Valley Championship.  Both the men’s and women’s teams won the team competition, while David Chorney of Muhlenberg won the men’s individual title and Shannon Alejandro of Lehigh won the women’s title.

 

The men’s team finished with a total of 28 points, while second place Muhlenberg had 71 points.  Mountain Hawks freshman Dan McClimon finished second overall with a time 26:53, just two seconds behind Chorney.  Lehigh placed five other runners in the top ten Matt Sheridan, Dan Dewitt, Ben Lampi, Douglas Ridyard and Kenny Burgess finishing five through nine.

 

On the women’s side, Alejandro finished the race in 22:42, finishing 53 seconds ahead of second place finisher Margaret Bruno-Metzger of Lafayette.  The women finished with 29 totals points, 18 ahead of Lafayette for second place.  Kaitlin Grimm, Alexis Wiener and Jen Filiberto were the other top ten finishers for Lehigh, placing third, fourth and tenth respectively.

 

Rounding out the teams on the men’s side were East Stroudsburg, Lafayette, DeSales and Moravian, while on the finishing order on the women’s side was Muhlenberg, East Stroudsburg, Moravian and DeSales.

 

The cross country teams return to action next weekend, when they travel to Easton for a meet with Lafayette.  The race starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
