Lehigh competes at Lafayette Relays

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams hit the pool for the first time this season, competing in the Lafayette Relays Saturday at Ruef Natatorium. The unscored meet featured 18 relay races, nine for each gender. The Lehigh men’s team was impressive winning eight of nine races, while the Mountain Hawk women’s teams were victorious in two of nine races.
Lehigh’s men’s team has enjoyed much success against Lafayette in the regular season dual meet for the last decade, and the Mountain Hawks put together top relay times on Saturday. Among Lehigh’s eight race wins was the 200 Medley relay, where seniors Tom Gilbert and Sean English, junior Jonathan Kearney and sophomore Dan Johnson won in 1:41.18. Kearney and Gilbert were part of a team best four winning relay teams. Johnson, joined freshman Jon Westfield and Kevin McGrath in winning three races each.
On the women’s side, Lehigh’s two race wins were in the 300 breaststroke relay and the 600 medley relay. Freshmen Melanie Rolish and Liz Murray were on both winning relay teams, with junior Sherri Pickens and freshman Stephanie Naylor each getting in on the action as well.
The regular season Lehigh-Lafayette meet, with a full slate of swimming and diving events is scheduled for Friday, November 17.
The Mountain Hawks will continue their regular season preparation with the annual Brown and White meet scheduled for Friday at 5:00 pm. Lehigh will open the regular season on Saturday, October 28 against West Chester at Jacobs Pool.
