Mountain Hawks claim third at Rutgers Invite

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Lehigh tuned up for the Don Mershon Classic with a solid third place showing at the Rutgers Invitational this weekend. The Mountain Hawks shot a two-round score of 653, just ten strokes off the pace of Columbia, who won the event with a 643. Bucknell finished second, while Towson and Penn rounded out the top-five. Lehigh’s Kelly Fitzgerald was the team’s top finisher as she shot a 161 (80, 81) to place in a tie for 14th.
Yvonne Kukora was Lehigh’s other top-20 finisher as the junior captain came in a tie for 17th place with a score of 162 (81, 81). Rutgers’ Lauren Huhnerkoch was the individual champion with a 153 (79, 74) narrowly edging out Bucknell’s Amy Loughery and Long Island’s Natalie Desjardins, who both shot a 154 (78, 76).
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Sunday afternoon when they play host to the Don Mershon Classic at Indian Valley Country Club. Tee time is set for 1:00.
