UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – In their second game of the Penn State Classic, No. 2 Penn State swept the Mountain Hawks 3-0 on Saturday morning. Game scores were 30-13, 30-9 and 30-19. Lehigh now drops to 0-12 on the season while Penn State improves to 10-0.
“It was an awesome effort by the team,” said head coach Amanda Moran. “Michelle Schwendenmann did really well for us on defense. Lindsay Brown had some great blocks on Megan Hodge, who was the number freshman in the nation.”
The Mountain Hawks remained close to the Nittany Lions for the first 10 points of the first game. However, Penn State pulled away en route to winning the first game. After an all-Penn State second game, the Mountain Hawks started a late rally in the third game, cutting a 15 point deficit to nine. However, the Nittany Lions got the last two points they needed to win the third game.
Lehigh was led by Schwendenmann who recorded a team-high of seven kills. Schwendenmann and classmate Cassidy Maumus each recorded team-best eight digs in the match.
Penn State registered a .521 hitting percentage for the match with Christa Harmotto having a game-high 12 kills. Alisha Glass paced the Penn State offense, recording 32 assists. Roberta Holehouse led the match with 12 digs.
