Lehigh drops pair at Buckeye Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Northern Illinois racked up a school record .505 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 win over Lehigh in the second match for both teams at the Buckeye Invitational at St. John Arena. The Mountain Hawks hit .165 for the match, an improvement from their match against Ohio State earlier Friday, but fell to 0-2 in the tournament and 0-5 on the season. Game scores were 30-19, 30-12 and 30-14 as the Huskies improve to 4-2 on the season.

 

Lehigh was led by senior outside hitter Michelle Schwendenmann, who racked up 16 kills and a .394 hitting percentage. Freshman Mo McReynolds added seven kills while Lindsay Brown added five kills in seven attacks for the Mountain Hawks.

 

Defensively, senior Cassidy Maumus led the way with 11 kills, with Schwendenmann adding eight. Freshman setter Sarah Wolfe handed out 24 assists in the match.

 

The Huskies placed four players in double-figure kills led by Laura Baetzel. Northern Illinois compiled an incredible 58 kills and just seven errors in 101 attacks.

 

Earlier Friday, Lehigh fell to the host Buckeyes 3-0.

 

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up play at the Buckeye Invitational on Saturday morning when they face Iona at 10:00 am. Lehigh will look to avenge a 3-1 defeat to the Gaels last weekend in the Temple University Classic.
