Posted: March 16, 2006
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Saint John’s rolled to a 6-1 victory over Lehigh inside the Lewis Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon in the first meeting between the two teams since 1998. The victory improves the Red Storm’s record to 5-4 on the season; the Mountain Hawks loss is their second straight. Lehigh is now 8-3.
The lone Lehigh win came at second singles, where junior Ryan Lloyd topped Tom Green of St. John’s by a score of 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5). Lloyd improved his record to 7-3 at second flight singles on the season.
The Mountain Hawks lost the doubles point, but it took Red Storm victories by counts of 8-6, 9-8 (5), and 8-6 to capture the hard-fought point.
Lehigh will return to action on Tuesday, March 21, when the Mountain Hawks play host to Villanova. Action is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 pm.
