Lehigh takes on Phillies in exhibition affair

Posted: March 13, 2006

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Lehigh wrapped up its stay in Florida with an exhibition game against minor leaguers in the Philadelphia Phillies system at Carpenter Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Phillies topped the Mountain Hawks by a score of 8-0.

Highly-touted prospect Edgar Garcia kept the Lehigh bats in check early on, recording three strikeouts and setting the side down in order over the game’s first three innings.  Garcia, a member of the Gulf Coast League Phillies (rookie league) in 2005, set down all nine Lehigh batters he faced.

Lehigh right fielder Nick Bet paced the Mountain Hawks offense with a pair of hits and a stolen base.  Catcher Matt Capell added a double.

On the mound, Lehigh head coach Sean Leary managed to work six pitchers into the game.

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Tuesday, when Lehigh visits Temple.  Game time is set for 3:00 pm from Ambler, Pa.  Lehigh will open its home schedule vs. Haverford on Wednesday at Goodman Field.
