Callan records another double-double but Lehigh falls

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton shot 55% from the floor as the host Bearcats rolled to a 72-48 victory over visiting Lehigh inside Events Center on Thursday night.
The loss is Lehigh’s third in a row, dropping the Mountain Hawks to 2-6 overall.
The Bearcats improve to 4-3 with the win.
In the first half, the Bearcats shot the lights out, while Lehigh couldn’t buy a bucket. Binghamton shot 56% from the floor (15-of-27) led by eight points from senior Rachel Laws.
The Mountain Hawks struggled with their shot attempts, connecting on just 22% of their opportunities (5-of-23) – its worst offensive output in any half this season. Despite the team struggles, junior forward Adrienne Blount was 4-for-8 from the floor, scoring eight points over the first 20 minutes.
Binghamton led by a 33-19 score at the half.
The second half proved to be more of the same, as the Bearcats quickly put the game out of reach. Laws finished with a game-high 14 points for Binghamton.
Lehigh senior Jenny Callan recorded her third consecutive double-double, and her fourth in the last five games. Callan finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort. Sara Ellis and Adrienne Blount scored nine apiece for the Mountain Hawks. Sophomore Kaela Pearce added eight off the bench with a perfect 4-of-4 shooting display.
Lehigh connected on just 34% of its shot attempts on the night, and LU was 0-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc. Lehigh turned the ball over 22 times.
Lehigh returns to action on Sunday, as the Mountain Hawks host Virginia Commonwealth at Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 2:00 pm, and tickets can be purchased at the arena box office on gameday.
