Mountain Hawks come up short vs. Rider, Penn

PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams ran up against some tough competition on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks men and women fell to both Rider and Penn on Penn’s campus. On the men’s side, the Broncs downed Lehigh 111-89, while the Quakers bested the visitors by a 132-105 score. Meanwhile, the Lehigh women fell to Rider 92-85, and the Mountain Hawks women fell to Penn by a 140-112.5 score.
Sophomore Jon Kearney picked up a win for Lehigh in the 1000 yard freestyle, posting a time of 9:46.81. Kearney also fared well in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing second in the event at 1:57.32. Elsewhere for the men, senior Grant Flothmeier finished second in the 200 yard IM by posting a time of 1:57.09.
On the women’s side, senior diver Laura Gray continued her strong start to the 2005-06 campaign, as she took first place in the three-meter dive, at 218.50. The Mountain Hawks relay team of sophomore Terry Mongan, senior Alyssa Zellner, freshman Nicole Lorigan, and sophomore Jeannette Braun captured first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 3:47.70. In the 200 yard breaststroke, the Mountain Hawks also swam well, capturing second through fourth place. Freshman Amanda Dickson (2:31.22) finished second, senior Jenny Orellana (2:32.45) was third, and senior Linda Hendrixson (2:33.54) finished fourth.
The Lehigh swimmers and divers hit the water once again on Friday, when the Mountain Hawks play host to rival Lafayette at Jacobs Pool. Action is set to get underway at 7:00 pm on November 18.
