Mountain Hawks down Lafayette in league opener 1-0

Pa. – Lehigh opened up Patriot League play in fashion on Friday evening with a 1-0 victory over archrival
Lafayette.
Senior Marissa Iannarone scored the game-winner with just 7:24 remaining the game on a penalty corner off of an assist from Mary Beth Kuenne.
With the win, the Mountain Hawks improve to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Leopards fall to 4-6, 0-1 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh out shot the Leopards 20-12 on the evening, and had nine penalty corners to five for Lafayette. Senior captain Meghan Gove stopped seven Leopard shots for the game, recording her second shut out of the season. Leopard goal keeper Jill Lambert stopped 11 shots of her own for the game. The win was the second straight for Lehigh over its archrival.
The Brown and White was led in shots by Kuenne with seven shots, while Iannarone and Katie Noon each had three. Lafayette was led by Laura Fabian with four shots.
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, October 8, in Worcester, Mass. when the Mountain Hawks take on Holy Cross. Game time is slated for noon.
