– No. 30 Lehigh played to a 1-1 tie with Richmond on Sunday afternoon, the Mountain Hawks first tie of the season, putting their record at 4-1-1, while the Spiders now sit at 3-3-1.
Lehigh, ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region, out shot the Spiders 23-8 on the afternoon, and had ten corners to Richmond
The Spiders got on the board first when Callum Thomas took a give-and-go pass from Alex Naime and blasted a shot from the ten yard line into the back of the net to give Richmond a 1-0 lead at the 25:14 mark. Lehigh would come back though, as sophomore Patrick Starsinic scored off of a feed from senior Adam Williamson and with just under ten minutes to go in the opening half, the score was tied at one. The teams would remain tied heading into halftime.
Despite several scoring chances for the Mountain Hawks in the second half, Lehigh was unable to find the back of the net, and so the two teams headed for overtime, still knotted up at one.
Lehigh had a pair of shots off of two corner kicks in the opening overtime, but Richmond held the Mountain Hawks off of the score board, and vice versa, sending the squads into a second ten minute overtime session. In the second over time, neither team was able to get anything going, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Sophomore goal keeper Charlie Sales sent back four shots for Lehigh, and Spiders goal keeper Eric Sciocchetti registered ten saves of his own. Lehigh was led in shots by Williamson with five, and for Richmond, Colin Vint totaled a team-leading three.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday evening when the Mountain Hawks go up another tough opponent from the Atlantic-10, this time welcoming George Washington to the Ulrich Sports Complex.
