– Lehigh did it once again on Friday evening, shutting out Binghamton
1-0 at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
It was the seventh shut out for the Mountain Hawks this season, which ties the school record set last year, and brings their record to 7-1-1, while the Bearcats fall to 4-4-2.
The lone goal of the evening was scored by Christin Johnson at the 80:23 mark off of a feed from Andrea Yetter.
The two teams battled feverishly through the first half, with neither able to find the back of the net. Lehigh unleashed seven shots, while Binghamton had only three. Both teams had one corner in the opening 45 minutes, but retired for halftime tied at zero.
The second half was very similar to the first, with neither team able to score, until Johnson beat Bearcat goal keeper Kristie Bowers. Bowers finished with seven saves, while freshman Julie Kafka stopped three Binghamton shots for Lehigh. Lehigh out shot the Bearcats 19-9 for the game, while the Mountain Hawks had three corners, to Binghamton’s two. Daniela Molina led the Brown and White with five shots, while Lauren Massey and Danielle White each had two to lead the visitors.
“It was good to get the result we wanted against a well-coached team,” explained Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin afterwards. “But I thought overall, we were a little sluggish, we had a number of chances to score, but weren’t able to finish.” Oudin then added, “We don’t have a lot of time to train and correct some things before our next match (versus Temple).”
Lehigh returns to action on Sunday evening when the Mountain Hawks welcome the Owls of Temple to the Ulrich Sports Complex for a 7:00 start. The game will be broadcast live on lehighsports.com with streaming audio and video provided by Yahoo! Sports. The contest will then be replayed locally on Service Electric 2 Sports later that evening beginning at 10:30 PM.
