ITHACA, N.Y. – Lehigh opened up its fall schedule this week at the Cornell Fall Invite. Following a rough start the Mountain Hawks put forth a strong showing and received some significant contributions from a group of freshmen who were making their collegiate varsity debuts.

Lehigh was most successful in the Flight D singles bracket as junior Cessa Murasko-Blank picked up three straight-set victories before losing to Army’s Megan Noble in the finals 6-2, 6-3. In the same bracket, freshman Kelsey Stone battled her way through the consolation bracket after an opening round loss. Stone won two consolation matches before losing the consolation final to Army’s Christine Limsiaco 6-3, 6-3.

Another freshman, Arelia Cohen overcame an early loss to win the consolation championship in flight B singles. Cohen finished the tournament with a 3-1 record, including a 6-3, 6-4 win over Army’s Amanda Paluch. The only other Mountain Hawk to win a singles match was sophomore Alexis Jacobi, who defeated Niagara’s Julianne Prokopich in straight sets in a consolation match in flight A singles.

In doubles action, Lehigh won one of four opening round matches scattered across two flights. Jacobi teamed with Allison Schwartz to defeat a duo from Buffalo in flight B competition. In flight A the team of Starr Foster and Ashley Donohue picked up a victory over a team from Niagara in consolation action.

The Mountain Hawks continue their fall schedule this weekend at the ECAC Championships in Newport, R.I. beginning Saturday.
