BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh opened the 2005 season on a high note, as the Mountain Hawks swept the Lehigh Valley Championships on the Goodman Course.  Both the Lehigh men and women swept the first three spots, with Sarah Seiler taking the women’s crown and senior captain Rob Hampson racing his way to first place on the men’s side.  After Lehigh with 17 points on the men’s side, Lafayette was second (64), followed by Kutztown (85), Muhlenberg (98), DeSales (104) and Moravian (176).  On the women’s side, the Brown and White had 19 points, while Kutztown placed second with 60 points, and it was followed by Lafayette (70), Muhlenberg (105) and Moravian (126).

Other Mountain Hawk finishers behind Seiler were junior captain Jen Schappert, senior Andrea Luebbe, junior Carolyn House, freshman Shannon Alejandro and Jen Filiberto and junior Kirsten Wert.  For the men, junior Brendan Glover placed second, followed by teammate and classmate Sean Swift.  Another junior, Victor Vientos, came in fifth place, and he was trailed by junior Steve Rosinksi, freshman Leo Smith and senior Dave Merola.

Head coach Debbie Utesch was happy with the running of her team, particularly the newcomers.  “I was very pleased with the exceptional performance of all of our girls, especially the freshman.  It's very promising to have a complete team.”  Utesch continued, “It was good to see we picked up right where we left off last season on the men's side, and we’re pleased with those freshman as well.”

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, September 17 when the Mountain Hawks take on archrival Lafayette in Easton.  The first race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM.
