Bethlehem, PA – In a relentlessly grueling, physical match that ran almost six hours long, Lehigh fell to Stony Brook, 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Lewis Tennis Center. With the loss, Lehigh goes 0-2 for the weekend and falls to 2-5 on the season, while Stony Brook improves to 1-2.
After Stony Brook took two of the three doubles contests to earn the first point, the teams split the six singles matches. The deciding victory came from David Kortum who won a marathon match with Lehigh freshman John Nespoli. Ryan Lloyd, Alfredo Fernandez-Concha and Brad Nelson picked up singles victories for the Mountain Hawks. Nelson and Nespoli picked up the Mountain Hawks lone doubles win.
Coach Dave Shook was pleased with the way his team battled. “They’re a tough team,” Shook said. “They’re ranked way up there and they defeated Boston College who just killed us yesterday.”
Lehigh returns to the court next weekend when the Mountain Hawks wrap up their eight match home stand against Delaware and Drexel.
