Hamilton, NY – Lehigh senior captain Nick Monserez scored 16 points, but it wasn’t enough as Colgate handed Lehigh its first league setback of the season with a 61-54 Raiders win at Cotterell Court on Friday night.
The loss drops Lehigh to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Raiders are 7-10 and 2-2 in league play.
Both teams were plagued by poor shooting throughout the course of the night, as neither team was able to shoot better than 36% in either half. Despite the shots not falling, the Raiders built a 31-25 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Lehigh scratched its way back, tying the game on a Joe Knight three-point basket down the stretch. In the end, however, it wasn’t enough as the Raiders went on to the victory.
Monserez’ 16-points were a game high. Earl Nurse scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds, and Joe Knight added eight points and five assists on the night.
Colgate had three players in double figures, led by 15 from Alvin Reed. The Raiders shot just 35% from the floor in the game, but were bolstered by an 18-of-25 effort (72%) from the free throw line.
The Mountain Hawks shot 32% from the field in the loss – its eleventh straight in Hamilton.
Lehigh’s path doesn’t get any easier on Sunday, as the Mountain Hawks head to Lewisburg to take on undefeated Bucknell (4-0). Game time is set for from Sojka Pavilion, with radio coverage on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 getting underway at .
